In my fantasy world, there is a reliable pitcher who can pitch the entire 9th inning of a 3-1 game.

Pitching feels very early-2003 Chad Fox-led bullpen by committee. Hope they turn it around and have as much success as that team did.

I bet there's a lot of bad feelings with Houck. He probably feels like he got screwed pretty bad out of service time in 2021, now there's the vaccine issue and he gets demoted to the pen after. Maybe we see a shocker trade with him. No Way. Houck is way too talented to throw away like some are posting on here. Bloom does not do stupid things like dumping cost controlled, effective players because some fans have hissy fits. Houck missing a 1 start in Toranto is a much bigger deal for old fans clamoring for another WS and nothing better to do than complain than to a team playing 162 games where players miss games for any number of reasons.

Wait, they let Franchy hit vs a LHP and then had Bobby come in as a defensive replacement? Very very very questionable managing decisions the past week I think whatever Cora had health wise, it damaged his brain instead of his lungs. He has made absolutely dumb pitching, pinch hitting, and line up decisions. Bogaerts absolutely should have been in the lineup Thursday in that 1-0 loss.

Devers' EV tonight:
101.1 113.1 112.0 108.5
That's good for the 12th, 4th, 2nd and most hard hit balls tonight.

I wish I could be this bad at my job and get nearly $500K a year with benefits, guaranteed raises and only have to work a few hours a day for 7 months of the year. Or as students at an elite university where I worked used to say, "The professors work 24-7 here...24 hours a week, 7 months of the year."

According to some posting on here, if it were equivalent to MLB players they should make millions per year…

I wish I could be this bad at my job and get nearly $500K a year with benefits, guaranteed raises and only have to work a few hours a day for 7 months of the year. Or as students at an elite university where I worked used to say, "The professors work 24-7 here...24 hours a week, 7 months of the year." That's one interpretation. Another would be that umpiring is such a difficult job that even the people who have the most training and are at the very top of the profession still miss the call several times a game.
I actually feel sort of bad for the umpires right now. We're in a sort of unsustainable situation where these technologies give an impression of precise determination of the position of every pitch (but note that it's just an impression), and everyone watching the game can see this recorded in real time - everyone except the umpires. I certainly wouldn't be able to call balls and strikes as well as an MLB ump if not for the little graphic they put up on the screen for every pitch. Of course, this is why robo umps are probably inevitable.
(PS. That estimation of professors' working hours is, uh, slightly inaccurate...)
