Brandon Walter has 29 Ks and zero BBs in his first 23 AA IP. Now that Holland is out, is there room for Walter in the Worcester rotation, perhaps pushing Pannone to a piggyback role?
EDIT: Walter Brandon went 3-for-26 in a failed attempt to catch on with the 1950 Moorsville Moors of the D-level North Carolina State League.

Holland was essentially replaced by Valdez being optioned down with the cutdown. If they feel like Walter is ready for AAA, they'll find a way, but the Holland opt-out isn't going to be the catalyst.

After a rough April, Paulino is 5-7 in May to give him an above average batting line for the Carolina league. 26% k rate might look ugly, but it's better than the 28% league average. Turns 20 in July.

Apologies if this link has already been posted here somewhere, but a pretty good article in general: theathletic.com/3281353/2022/05/01/when-will-reinforcements-like-triston-casas-jeter-downs-be-ready-for-red-sox-a-qa-with-their-triple-a-coach/One very specific quote from Rich Gedman I wanted to share here, though, because I think it's very relevant to the people who I see as over-optimistic about Dalbec and, sometimes, about prospects/players in general. This is in response to a question about Casas being able to hit 35 homers if he sold out for it: "I don’t give him 35. I can’t. Not until he does it. I mean, that’s the problem with this game sometimes. We sit there and say, “Well, Bobby Dalbec’s going to hit 40.” Has he ever hit 40? I understand, we can add 20 more games (when he goes from the minors to the majors) and say, if he does the same thing (he’ll get there). Well, he has to do that first. When they do it, you sit there and say, “Well, he’s capable of doing it. Maybe he’s capable of doing more.’ Somebody hits .280 and you say, ‘Next year, he’s going to hit .300.” That’s not always the way it is. It doesn’t always get better. It doesn’t always (become) more."

Eddinson Paulino has four hits through five innings. None of it has been very hard contact, but he's putting the bat on the ball and finding the holes in the defense.
Uberstine had a very solid start. 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Wasn't really missing bats, but limited hard contact and rarely let the ball leave the infield. The only run he let up was a weird play where the runner scored from second base on a grounder to Bonaci. The camera angle wasn't good, but the runner either caught Miller napping at first or he had an issue with the transfer.

Victor Santos apparently getting the start tonight and Walter tomorrow. But we still love Walter today (and every day).

Worcester rained out in Toledo. They're scheduled for a noon game tomorrow and will make up the rainout with a doubleheader Thursday at 11am.

I have a vision that AAA will get a haevy dose of pitching from AA. I wuold love to see bullpen Politi, Shugart, German and starters Bello, Groome, Walter, Murphy. How un stoppable will the WOO be.

Yorke finally gets his first home run of the year. He hasn’t been hitting for power so far, so let’s hope this gets him started

Rafaela was 0 for 4 with no walks and a strikeout….and 2 stolen bases…..feel like this could be a riddle:)

Fair. The big league roster contracting leaves less room for AA promotions right now but with one less pitcher above Walter (and Groome and Bello and...) on the depth chart, there's going to be room to grow.
Just have to wonder how long a rope they give to older guys like Pannone, Hart, Gillies, Cole with all the Portland kids champing at the bit.

I'd have German and Politi promoted to Portland before Walter.
Walter had a great month, but we're talking about 4 starts for a guy who at this time in 2021 hadn't pitched above the complex yet. 9 don't think he's moving up before July.

Maybe Nick Yorke just likes to go off in the second month of the season. 4 for 9 with a double and a homer already in two games.
