Any 3 Prospects for Juan Soto

Post by Guidas on May 5, 2022 13:47:10 GMT -5
Plus, perhaps a non-top 10 system guy.
And then immediately extend him for 10 years at $40M a year.
Who's with me!?

One player isn’t going to fix this team when 7 other spots in the lineup are hitting like poop

No It is a team sport. One player only helps... doesnt cure. It does in the NBA (Jordan)

Verdugo-Dalbec-Duran-Yorke-Winkleman should get it done. Kiké Devers X Soto JD Story Casas Vazquez JBJ Lol, Washington hangs up immediately. Yorke and Mayer start the package. Bello probably needs to be in there as well

Bello probably needs to be in there as well I would probably trade that with a contract extension, but the Sox don't like 10 plus year deals and Soto is getting that. Soto will never be a Red Sox.

Verdugo-Dalbec-Duran-Yorke-Winkleman should get it done. Kiké Devers X Soto JD Story Casas Vazquez JBJ Yeah, that "should get it done" if the Nats are forced to trade Soto and no other team in baseball exists other than the Red Sox, which isn't the case, as 28 other teams do exist and a number of them have better deals they could offer than what you propose, which is a guy playing bad enough to be demoted, a prospect who did get demoted and at age 25 has yet to establish himself, a basically average outfielder, a lotto ticket, and a legit prospect. I think Mayer is probably the starting point. Tack on two of Yorke, Casas, and Bello, and you at least have their attention, but still, another deep pocketed team with a better system or top tier of their system could beat that offer.

Why not just resign Devers. He’s very close to Soto.

Rafael Devers, 2020 to present: .285/.345/.536 (135 wRC+) Juan Soto, 2020 to present: .308/.456/.552 (166 wRC+) Soto is a clear tier or two better than Devers. Over this time period, the offensive gap between Soto and Devers is roughly equivalent to the offensive gap between Devers and Alex Verdugo.

Yeah not sure if this is accurate, but in my eyes I put Soto in a league with Trout and Trout only.

Yeah not sure if this is accurate, but in my eyes I put Soto in a league with Trout and Trout only. Offensively I'd put Vlad Jr in that group. Not quite the same offensive player as Soto, but I'd put Ohtani in a group among the most valuable in the game. But I'd say in terms of youth and what I think his career will ultimately look like, I wouldn't be that surprised if Soto wound up threatening 600 plus homers in his career. And yeah, Trout is amazing. I for some reason think of him as the new Mickey Mantle minus the personal problems (kind of how Ken Griffey Jr made me think of Willie Mays).

I'd let WAS pick 2 of Casas, Mayer, Yorke, Bello, then 2 of any other prospect. Might even be convinced to do 3 of those first 4. The thing here is that Soto is 23, barely older than most of those prospects I'd be trading for him. I'm all for prospects, depth, and building from the farm, but what is the point of a strong farm system if not to parlay it into acquiring a 23 year old who is already widely considered to be a top 5 talent in the big leagues?
Again, I love prospects, but none of those guys are sure things. Soto's already proven himself as a force on offense, in more aspects than 1, has championship experience, and would be able to be "hidden" defensively in left field at Fenway Park.

Soto is the perfect LF for Fenway for the next 15 years, if the Sox had Steve Cohen as a owner. I'd think he'd be a Red Sox by the trade deadline. Devers is a great hitter for Fenway, but Soto would be even better. Soto will probably end up on one of the New York teams.

It seems to me that the vast majority of their hesitation in signing players boils down to age. Giving a 28 year old a 12 year deal definitely gives me pause. Where Soto is 23, a 12-13 year deal brings him to his age 35-36 seasons, which is still within the range of production for a player of his skill set.

I feel like 1 of Mayer/Yorke. A little hard to give up both.

Soto is going to be MLB's first 400 million dollar baseball player. I don't see Henry commiting that much money to one player ever (he likes to spread the money around with the payroll). I also don't see Bloom trading the prospect capital to acquire Soto. It's going to take a extreme prospect package. Goes against everything he's been building the past 3 years in Boston.

Trout got 420 million over 2 extensions. I'm talking about Soto being the first MLB player to get a 400 million dollar contract (one contract) for ten plus years.

I don't get the "it goes against his M.O." nonsense. None of us know his M.O. It was clear that the first step in any 5 year plan was to build farm capital. To say that since he's almost exclusively done that so far means that's all he'll ever do is short sighted. He hasn't made big trades yet because any moderately sized trade would bring them right back to the point where they have nothing in the farm system. It's now been built to include a decent amount of top tier talent, as well as many intriguing pieces.

As much as id love Soto, Devers is basically a poor man's Soto. Just give Devers a mega deal and keep the extreme prospect package it would cost to get Soto.

It's now been built to include a decent amount of top tier talent, as well as many intriguing pieces. Bloom when he was hired, talked about sustainable success that lasts years and years. Trading the whole farm system for Soto completely goes against that. That's a Dave Dombrowski approach. See superstar, go get superstar. No matter what it took (like the Kimbrel trade). One of the reasons why we haven't seen him make a trade like this because he would know how much that kill depth that he's been trying to create since he's been here.
