When is this kid going to jump at least 20 spots in the rankings? Currently at 44 and all he has done is hit .286/.454/.601 in 315 PAs as a professional. I realize he's 23 and finally in A+, has some swing and miss (but manageable so far), can't run and has the ceiling of an average 1B in the field, but the walks and power are insane. I feel like he hasn't been pushed hard enough because he hasn't struggled yet and is walking 22% of the time. And Greenville is already not a problem after 1 game. lol

Future DH of the Red Sox perhaps. Given his age, they should challenge him and see what they really got. If the guy hits enough, whacks a ton of HRs and walks alot to get on base, then they might have something useful, a real contributor to the offense. Better than the rotate players in/out of the DH thing that some teams do.

80 grade thread name.
The thing with Kavadas is he has a profile that should succeed in the lower levels. I recall discussing in camp with the guys that he's going to go to Salem and rake and get a midyear promotion (saying this because it was an easy prediction, not because I'm some kind of smarty), and he's going to start getting some hype. Great approach, tons of power. My concern is with the bat path - it's a true uppercut designed to put the ball in the air, and I don't know how it'll play against upper minors pitching. Helps that he won't expand the zone, but I'm curious what his whiff rate will look like against pitchers who can attack his bat path.
He's going to make a sizeable jump on July 1, but he's "just" a borderline top 30 guy at this point probably. He's doing what he's supposed to do and that is great. We'll see from there.

has some swing and miss (but manageable so far) His swinging strike % has actually been pretty good (although maybe not good for a 23 year old bat-only guy in Low-A). He just takes tons of pitches and gets deep in the count a lot.

What’s the Red Sox minor league record for consecutive games with a tater?

Kavadas ranks 1st out of 1,491 minor leaguers with a 201 wRC+. (min. 100 PA) He only has a 27% ground ball rate. His 38% HR/FB is 6th in minor league baseball. His power/whiff combo is incredible:

It'll be interesting to see if he can handle LHP going through the ranks. Probably one thing he'll need to check off the checklist. If the bat is this good, he's a legit prospect.

The Big White Papi!
Love the walk / strikeout ratio. For a guy with swing and miss in his bat he doesn't strikeout a lot compared to the walks he draws. I get the caution but top 10 as far as I'm concerned at this point. Even if all he does is end up a left handed platoon bat that power plays significantly. Trade bait probably sometime soon. He hit a lot of HR his last couple years at ND. Maybe the pop is for real? It's nice to see some pop in the minors again.
Roughly 1 HR per every 11 AB this year. 18 HR already is not a trivial number.
Check out the forearms in that jumping photo. That definition is abnormal.

Are we talking " Popeye" type of forearms here?

The fact he’s not even ranked in the top 25 shows how deep we are right now which is crazy. Thanks Bloom!!!

The minor leagues will also take the all-star break off, so there's no reason for Niko to hang around Greenville any longer. He's only played 17 games at A+ but his raw numbers have only gone up since A-ball.
God bless Tyreque Reed but he's slumping and may have hit his ceiling. Maybe he and Niko should just Greco-Roman wrestle for the lineup spot before every Sea Dogs game...

He definitely should be pushed until he struggles even a little bit.

Good deal. Only way to truly test him at this point. What's crazy is that now he's not even all that (if at all?) age-advanced for the level.

He needed all of 37 games in Greenville, and never really broke stride.

So his power fell off a cliff this month and his K rate went up to 29%, but he was still getting on base at a .430ish clip with a 21% walk rate, making me think he may have been getting pitched around. If that's right, they almost had no choice but to promote him - a guy with his plate approach isn't going to get better if he's not seeing anything to hit.
