With a loss, the FCL Red Sox's lead on the WC spot is down to 1 game over the Mets with 3 games to go.

Why is there any argument about bringing Casas up right now? Why not wait until next year after a month and gain an extra year of control? He's not exactly crushing it this year. You have a left handed hitting first baseman with a track record playing right now and you're still sort of in the hunt for a wildcard spot. Other organizations do it all the time, why can't the Red Sox do it too? I believe the cutoff is next Tuesday for the "extra year." Thus, presumably, for an extra "extra year" it would be some time next August, not May. Note: I might have this entirely wrong. Maybe an expert will weigh in down the way. If Casas is called up now and never goes back down, he'll be a free agent after the 2028 season. If he's called up after late April, he'll be a free agent after the 2029 season.

Gotta say to my untrained eyes, that looks like a beauty of a swing. He should be a fun prospect to follow.

Should we start the debate who's the best prospect between Mayer and Romero?

I never said "now."

That's when he can get called up and still maintain his eligibility for next year's Rookie of the Year award. If he wins that, the Red Sox get a draft pick between the first and second rounds.

I think Bello should stay in AAA to finish the season. Starting next year he should only see the minors in rehab. Im pretty sure hes at a carrer high for innings pitched right? Unless we Start Rich Hill and have him pitch 2-3 innings and have Bello come in for 2-4 I personally prefer to treat him with caution.

DSL Red win to stay alive in the playoff race.
Simon Pacheco with a dominant relief outing. He's been putting up video game numbers this year: 33IP, 16H, 0ER, 3BB, 39K

I wouldn't shut him down yet, but I don't disagree.

The reason you don't wait next year to get the extra service time is if he finishes in the top 2 for ROY you can get comp picks.

I'd rather have an extra year of control than a potential draft pick.

OK, I've seen it as 2 but I'm guessing those were getting confused on the year of service time point.

I'd rather have an extra year of control than a potential draft pick. Yeah, it's not close in terms of value. And realistically, it's like a 10% chance at the draft pick. This year Julio Rodriguez, Spencer Torkelson and Bobby Witt were on the opening day roster though, so who knows
In the general case, holding guys back is dishonorable, and that's the main reason not to do it.

No one should run at midday in Fort Myers in August if they don't have to.

ERC 4 innings pitched 1 run 1 earned,2bb, 3ks.took the loss.1.95era.
I know and understand this question is much more complex but to dumb it down, If a pitcher is going to have success in the majors whats the one pitch he needs to have mastered. If success took one pitch?

If you can throw some heat, and you can spot it, at the very least you can throw a quality MLB inning.

Chris - do you know if working the count and trying to generate higher OBP is still the offensive point of emphasis in the minors? I know this was king when Theo was GM and I am guessing Cherington carried it over. But a lot of these swings and approaches by the bulk of the players - at least what I've seen in the last two years of sporadically attending games, but, more importantly, looking at the advanced stats - seem more predicated on launch angle and power. Do you know if that impression is correct?

Reidis Sena, last seen on July 6, is apparently off the IL and starting tonight for Salem.

Tough test for the Sea Dogs batters tonight. McGarry is throwing 98 and has struck out a ton of batters this year
