Rodriguez is a lefthanded pitcher that fits the Sox needs and Park is an infielder that played primarily at shortstop. Dealing with move around the periphery before the big blast.

In terms of current bullpen guys and their ability to be optioned to Worcester (per the 40 Man Roster page):
Cannot be optioned: Barnes, Joely
0 options left - Ryan Braiser (are we sure that’s correct? @redsoxpayroll on Twitter has him at 1 left)
Every other reliever on the 40 man can be optioned to AAA from what I can see. I’m sure that will change with additions, but it felt like at times in 2022 it was hard to shake things up because there were so many guys who you weren’t allowed to demote (barring an injury real or imagined.) Barnes, Robles, Diekman, Austin Davis, and Strahm (tho he was good) all could not be optioned, and you weren’t sending Houck or Schrieber anywhere.
At present things look far more flexible?

i probably shouldn't speak for dirtdog, but i think he meant the 2nd part facetiously. Either way, i am pretty sure his first sentence is an appropriate take for some people. Also, i know your aware, it isn't just salary, it is a roster spot. That has its own opportunity cost. My diehard Mets friend didn't give rave reviews nor did he give awful reviews. Happy he made a move for the bullpen and hope this guy turns into Billy Wagner (lite) What do you mean facetiously? He actually meant that it is financially significant? Or did he mean that it's a bad thing because it isn't financially significant? If the first one - it isn't, if the second - that doesn't make sense to be upset about. By the way, at this salary he's not guaranteed a roster spot for the season by any means. After last season I would prefer first player acquisitions other than dime a dozen relievers that allow a run every two innings and are always on other teams scrap heaps. Bloom has found gems like Schreiber and to an extent Whitlock by picking through trash so give him his due. However it seems like he spends too much time patching cracks when it seems like the situation calls for a renovation. Yeah I know it is still early and big deals get done later nowadays, but it would help if the first moves were a little more uplifting than what had happened so far.

Eh, I don’t really want Bloom making moves to assuage Red Sox fan angst. It sucks having to wait what seems like forever for the big moves to be announced, but that’s the rhythm of MLB offseasons these days.

New pitching notes article on mlbtraderumors.com indicates that the Red Sox offered 2/$8mil for Brooks Raley last offseason. Ultimately the Rays got him at 2/$10mil. Seems likely that the Sox wouldn’t match and, much later in the offseason, signed Diekman for that same 2/$8mil. Not sure if Diekman was their plan B or their plan E, but I would have much rather preferred Raley, unless be really didn’t want play here. Bad way to save $1mil…
Speier notes that the Sox likely regret that decision, and they may be more aggressive going after relievers moving forward. Saw another tweet connecting them with Kenley Janson, but I’m taking that with a grain of salt since the source is questionable.

According to ZiPS, the Sox already have a very good pen with a 5.2 WAR projection.

I don't believe for one second they'd be in on Jansen, nor should they be. But there was reporting that they wanted to have more of a fixed-role closer next season. That could be someone in-house (Barnes? Schreiber?). But I wonder if they might be in on someone like Taylor Rogers for that role? Or Chad Green? They'd probably cost about as much as Barnes.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if that bullpen construction put up that WAR. I wonder how much of that is Houck who may or may not be a starter this year.
Not bullpen related but that projection seems bearish on Devers and bullish on Story. I can't necessarily disagree with any of the other projections at first glance though.

Tomorrow the full ZiPS write up comes. All things considered that isn't too bad before any moves have been made. Also, this is the first time I am seeing any reference to Altavilla, I had no idea who he even was before seeing this. Can anyone summarize what's up with him? Was he out all year from a injury? Any news on him?

According to ZiPS, the Sox already have a very good pen with a 5.2 WAR projection. According to (at least some) people who have watched the Red Sox the pen has been largely lousy for the better part of the last few years and particularly lackluster in 2022.

Would love Kahnle as a closing option. He's nasty.

Am I remembering right that he's a dickbag though? LaTroy Hawkins stated he was "One of the worst teammates I’ve ever had in my life" after they played together in 2014 (Kahnle's rookie season) with Colorado. Apparently he's super loud, but I imagine he's become more bearable over the last 8 years. Couldn't find any other reports of him being a clubhouse concern.

I'm liking the 1YR/$2M Joely Rodriguez signing more and more each day.
Rafael Montero 3YR/$34.5M Robert Suarez 5YR/$46M Matthew Boyd 1YR/$10M
The relief market is insane at the moment!
