I am enjoying wild card weekend as a fan without a dog in the fight I am thinking that I will not be too excited in the future if the Red Sox qualify for this round and will not feel like they accomplished much of anything if they get eliminated here. Top two seed or LCS are the minimum thresholds for a good season IMO. It reminds me of all those years of watching WC weekend in the NFL with the Patriots sitting at home and waiting to see who they'll play. Enjoyable games all day Saturday and Sunday, but with little rooting pressure. The rooting pressure starts with the MFY series against the Franconas.

It reminds me of all those years of watching WC weekend in the NFL with the Patriots sitting at home and waiting to see who they'll play. Enjoyable games all day Saturday and Sunday, but with little rooting pressure. The rooting pressure starts with the MFY series against the Franconas. As always I'm worried about the Yankees winning it all. I looked at the Yankees final stats and was surprised to see that they underachieved their pythagorean record by seven games. I was shocked that pythagorean had them at 106-56. Their talent is as good as Houston's and certainly better than Cleveland's and Seattle's and it's not close. So then I find myself rooting for Houston because they're most likely the team that can knock them out, although eventually if they match up often enough the Yankees will finally beat them. Maybe the best way to go is to root like hell for Mookie and the Dodgers and just hope they eat up everybody. Why not? They won 111 games. Not like they wouldn't deserve it. Although I would like the 2018 Sox to remain the winningest World Champ of this century with their 119 wins. If the Dodgers won they'd have 122. So I guess I'll root for LA or whoever else only if NYY gets in. That goes for the Mets too. If their cross town rival gets in, then let's go Mets. Otherwise they can wait 86 years for their next championship as punishment for 1986. Lol But I'd much prefer Seattle or Cleveland to spring some serious upsets and end their drought.

So nice to see TOR and TB knocked out. Now, if only one more AL East team fails to advance, it will be the playoff and World Series that America needs.'
(at least, if America has come to grips with the Red Sox somehow not being in the playoffs this year).

There were more posts about Manoah than Bloom on this particular thread, tho. Bloom should be in ZERO comments on THIS thread. If you have not noticed, the Red Sox are not currently playing! This is a Red Sox board and Chaim Bloom runs the Red Sox. He’s relevant in every aspect of the organization(especially while other AL East teams are playing). Now if you had said there should be no comments about Bill Belichick in this thread, I would have to agree.

I mean, the “complain about Chaim Bloom containment thread” did get closed After a billion pages- y’all just type the exact same thing 1000 times in every thread and think it’s some giant-brained thought nobody has ever heard before To be fair, that what this entire board is, though. Are there actually new insights into a Xander extension? Or how Chris Sale might look in the future? Or Franchy and Dalbec? Every thread could basically be closed after a couple pages.

Here's to hoping the Mets get eliminated one round further than the Yankees.
It's good that the Jays lost. They should have had to play home games in Buffalo.

Guardians Mariners would be so sweet! Padres Phillies would be incredible. Mariners Padres series (I can dream!)
Time for some new blood.

I do not know who was favored in each series, but I expected Tor, TB, StL, and the Mets to win those series (not that I pay attention to the NL much). I hope Cleveland can make quick work of the MFY (Not that they will). It would be nice for Seattle to go to their first WS ever.

Cannot imagine that Cleveland or Seattle give the Yankees or Astros much of a test, but we'll see.

Cleveland I think was 50 points lower OPS wise with their offense for the whole season than the Yankees. The Guardians better get some timely hitting or it's going to be a blood bath.

Cannot imagine that Cleveland or Seattle give the Yankees or Astros much of a test, but we'll see. We often see how these short series can go either way, regardless of the talent each team is putting on the field. The 88-win Braves can get past the mighty Dodgers. The '73 Mets, '87 Twinkies, '06 Cardinals are examples of pretty good teams that rolled in the PS. That's where we have to place our hopes in the Franconas-MFY series. The MFY lineup includes guys with these OPS-plus numbers: 84, 86, 90, and 94. Other than Judge, only Rizzo (131) stands out as really good. Three others are at 111, 113 and 114. Treat Judge the way the Cardinals treated Papi in game 7 of the '13 WS and it's a different lineup.

There was no Game 7 of the 2013 World Series thankfully or else we'd have seen Jake Peavy vs Joe Kelly. Thankfully the Sox wrapped things up in Game 6. But your point stands. The Yankees lineup beyond Judge isn't terrifying. Rizzo and Stanton are capable of hitting HRs. Torre was ok. The Yanks probably win because their pitching is pretty damn good and Cleveland's offense really isn't. Ramirez is the only guy to worry about in that lineup. And losing Aroldis Chapman is addition by subtraction.

I grudgingly admit that it's likely the MFYs will beat the Franconas. I was disagreeing with the statement that the Franconas are unlikely to pose any challenge. My feeling is that they should still play the games. Fangraphs has the MFYs' chances at 59 percent and that sounds about right. But it'll be fun to see those odds flip in the other direction if the Franconas win game 1 on the road.
