I think there has to be an upset. Has to be. Short series, long layoffs.
I wish the Mariners were playing the Yankees… I’d take them. I guess the most likely upset is Padres over the Dodgers. But of the four, I’ll go Phils over Braves. I don’t feel great about it, but I can’t go straight favorites.

Yankees in 3 Astros in 3 Dodgers in 4 Braves in 4 Sounds about right to me. Cleveland is a bad matchup for NY. Seattle might push Houston to 5 but I don't see Seattle prevailing. I think the Padres and Phillies would be fortunate to push those series to 4 games.

It's baseball. No one in these series has better than a 60% chance of winning. The chances of the better team sweeping in 3 are maybe 20%.

Baseball is turning into a juggernaut league. Everyone points to the Braves winning last year like they're underdogs, but they're perennially in the race every year now.

The Mariners right-handed hitters are tailored to their ballpark, while the left-handed hitters mash away from there. If Luis Castillo makes a statement like he did in the first game against the Blue Jays, this series will not be a gimme. He was overwhelming and they could do nothing with him, just stunningly good.

Guardians Record in the 2nd Half: 46-26, .639 win % Yankees Record in the 2nd Half: 35-35, .500 The Yankees have Judge. But their closer (Holmes) is receiving shoulder cortisone shots, their original closer got kicked off the team (Chapman), their #3 starter is hurt (Montas), they traded away their previous #3 for no good reason (Montgomery), their slugging DH is hitting .151 since the all star break (Stanton), and their ace pitcher was rattled by a Kermit the frog puppet in the playoffs last year. The Guardians have J-Ram, Clase, and the greatest postseason manager of the last twenty years. I like Cleveland’s odds.

Yankees in 3 Astros in 3 Dodgers in 4 Braves in 4 How often do all 4 favorites advance to the Championship round? I bet it’s extremely rare. Therefore, I think at least one underdog advances...and maybe even 2.

Carpenter is supposedly available as a DH/PH(but he hasn’t played in a month). LeMahieu is still a question mark in terms of his health, as well. The Yankees lineup is suspect. But that pitching it legit and I’m not sure Cleveland will be able to score much.

Bieber, McKenzie, Quantrill shouldn’t be underestimated, but the Cleveland lineup is definitely worse than this year’s Red Sox lol. Mariners versus MFY, I would take the Mariners since they have Castillo

I feel like Cleveland's offense is being underrated a little. They were 6th in the AL in runs. They had a 99 wRC+ overall, and 6 starters who were above average:
Gimenez - 140 Ramirez - 139 Kwan - 124 Gonzalez - 122 Naylor - 117 Rosario - 103
The bottom of their lineup is dreck. Come to think of it, top to bottom they're kind of a mirror image of the Boston lineup.

Cleveland has enough pitching to take out the Yankees

Cleveland has enough pitching to take out the Yankees I would love to see the ALCS Cleveland vs Seattle and NLCS San Diego Vs Philadelphia. If Seattle played San Diego for the World Series, it would two franchises that have never won one.

Since I can’t imagine all 4 favorites advancing, I am going to call Philly upsetting the Braves. Cleveland is hot at the right time, too. Hoping they can keep it going.

Robertson with the dreaded celebration injury. Out for the series. Clutch.

Is Cleveland "hot"? They were the Rays having a competent offense from getting bounced themselves.

Is Cleveland "hot"? They were the Rays having a competent offense from getting bounced themselves. I think the term to describe Cleveland is "Less Cold"

That doesn’t qualify as “hot”? Maybe it describes their W-L record, but certainly not their bats. A 1-0 win in 15 innings is not “hot” in my book.

Seattle is going to win it all boys. They’re on last year’s Braves/2019 Nationals trajectory.
But in all seriousness Castillo can be what Josh Beckett was for us in 2007 and Gilbert/Ray aren’t too shabby. All the teams are flawed, so I don’t get how anyone would predict zero upsets this round

Phils game 1. Check. Seattle hitting Verlander. So far so good.

Can someone please remind me of the point of the Vazquez trade from the Red Sox’ perspective?
