I guess they will need to keep the duck boats in storage in Boston - perhaps for many years.
How can you play one of the worst games of your season on this huge stage? Breathtaking collapse of this team.
At least they are familiar with how the needed miracle works - gotta win the next two.

Now listening to Grandy and Max. They said it was hard to tell if the Celtics were playing poorly, or not playing hard enough. Kind of funny watching Pritchard hitting these threes. Where has he been? I think they were playing poorly. I do think they need to play with more pace, but the shooting was horrendous. This is why the bs in game 1 and game 4 really matters. It’s all connected. Unlike last year, this team’s defensive is sparked by its offense, and the offense is sparked by a couple of made 3s. When they miss a few shots early, it carries into the defense. And when they can’t get stops, they can’t push the pace on offense. They should’ve continued to be a defensive-minded team, but apparently that’s not a priority for this coaching staff. |

Key questions - probably best answered after the season - but I'm already pondering them
Why are the Celtics so often as flat as a pancake in so many big games? How can they lose their pace of play, give up big leads, etc?
What is up with Tatum playing so poorly early in games - he ends up with good stats, but collects them when the cow is already out of the barn
Can Brown and/or Tatum actually take that next step?
Can they afford the bad Smart (mindless turnovers, ill advised threes) along with the good Smart (hustle, defense)?
Is Mazzulla the coach for this group of players?

This is a front running team. When they make shots, they play with energy on defense and pace/movement on offense. When they miss shots, they hang their heads, complain to the refs, give up transition and semi-transition buckets, aren’t focused on defense, play slow and iso-heavy on offense. It’s been like that just about every year. At this point, I put it on the players—Tatum, Brown and Smart especially. They are still talented enough to win even when they get into bad habits (and still have a chance to win it all this year). But that is why it is so frustrating to watch them underperform their potential.

This team was due for a crap game, the issue for me isn't last game. It's the game before to take a 3-1 series edge that they let slip away.

The game before is chaos and I don't mind the L, but the first game in the series where they guarded Melton like he was goddamn Westbrook is absolutely inexcusable. There's a difference between drop coverage and flat out NOT GUARDING DUDES. |

Kind of an important game. Are we gonna lose quietly in 6 to a team whose number we should have? Or are we gonna play like the best team in the league like we did 7 short days ago?
And if we lose, are we gonna hitch our wagons to Tatum/Brown for the 7 years with extensions totaling $620M? I think you still do, they are still young enough to build that killer instinct, but getting bounced like this doesn't make me feel great about it.

It may not be as good of a chance as we have now but they’ll always be competitive. Will be about finding the right mix and them maturing. I said it last year- it’s hard for young guys to win titles. If god forbid they get eliminated by these bums tonight it will be a tough pill to swallow but these are all wounds that will callous over and make them harder to deal with when they are 29 I’d prefer they just win the damn series though. Would much rather lose to playoff Jimmy than these free throw merchants |

Make the 76ers adjust, throw something at them they don't expect. Like Double big lineup with Robert Williams or even Grant Williams.

Smart and Brown with bad early turnovers gave Philly life. Brogdon another just now. Build a big lead - then leave the door open.
Now they are letting the mistakes impact their offense - lost the flow, giving easy shots. This team just can't keep their feet on the gas. They end up screwing up the small important details.
Tatum with two missed layups. The details....

First quarter assessment - the offense played quite well - shame about a few bad turnovers from careless passes. Thank goodness for White and Brogdon. Good quarter by Tatum in terms of his decisions - not at all with his shooting.. Brown, not so much.
Defense- we played a bit soft - should have a bigger lead - but we just need to keep up this intensity - run Phila into exhaustion.

Good start to second quarter - now neither team is shooting well - score has been frozen for some time. Phila broke the ice. Now Boston.
Yet another baffling start by Tatum - no field goals yet - but he's playing good D

Let's see if they can keep from folding like a cheap suit. So far, so (mostly) so good. Just a few ill advised plays so far. Why can't Tatum score early in games? So weird! |

Tatum can't hit anything but is giving effort on defense and the boards. That's all you can really ask when the shots aren't going down. Also nice that Brown and Brogdon are picking up their aggressiveness to compensate.

Smart's defense is getting pretty overrated. I know Harden has a nice handle but can't let him shake you out of your shoes like that.
