This is NOT a 40-man roster question, but I was not sure where to put this.
FA who were not on the 40-man
Brian Keller Mieses Christian Stewart Grullon Pedro Castellanos Izzy Wilson
Do we have any inkling who will be re-signed?
IMO Enmanuel Valdez will be added to the 40-man, but I guess all the players on the list can walk if not agreeing to a minor league contract. I would assume there is room on the AAA and AA rosters for at least some of them to stay if Bloom & Co. like what they did in 2022 (and they have a desire to stay). I would assume also that if Bazardo or Danish felt that they would get a better chance at the MLB from Bloom than some other GM would are-Sign as well…

My guess is Castellanos is the only one that may be re-signed since he has been with the team a while, and even that comes down to if he sees better opportunities elsewhere. The others are guys that are 4A players that tend to bounce around from team to team every year. And even that signing may not take place to later, as they could lose any ml signing in the rule 5 draft. Small risk, I know, as a team could just sign the player themselves if they were that interested.

This is NOT a 40-man roster question, but I was not sure where to put this. Just make a new thread, man! Not like there's a whole lot else happening right now. Nope. No question. Would be absolutely nuts to let him walk after trading for him. Very different from the question of whether or not to chance Wilyer Abreu getting popped in Rule 5. As for whether any guys have re-signed, we'll probably find out 5 days after the world series when guys on our list ( soxprospects.com/mlfa.htm as well as at the bottom of soxprospects.com/org.htm) are not listed among those becoming free agents.

A bunch of DSL guys were released today: Diego Rodriguez, Josue Castillo, Andres Ortuno, Henry Morales, Yevganni Reinita, Miguel Rojas, Stiwar Adames, Giancarlos Santana, Axel James, Frank Astacio, Starlin Santos, Irving Medina, and Carlos Reyes. Nothing worth noting, although Santana got $460,000 in the 2018-2019 signing period.

Gives the Sox someone that can play SS in the majors in case of an emergency.
Addresses exactly what Chris and Ian were talking about on the podcast. With Park and Downs (potentially) gone, there was no one in AAA with major league experience at SS. Goodrum fills that hole.

I bet he gets called up at some point. Good defense and will at least draw some walks

This makes me sad. He was a personal favorite. Would be cool if he gets a shot. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mieses come back. He’s fun to watch.

Switch hitter but much better against righties which is ideal I think in what they want for a centerfield candidate. I like having him in competition with Duran for the last bench spot out of spring training, or as depth if he doesn't make it. Obviously still hoping for other candidates for that role too, but solid enough.
ADD: Allen apparently gets a $1.4M salary if he makes the Majors and of course has to take a 40-man spot, so I'm guessing it's an uphill battle for him to make the roster on opening day. Good depth either way.

Ordinarily you'd bury this in some other thread, but he has a real shot at making the roster. I think they'd be much better off giving him a shot at Duran's projected role and letting Duran play every day in AAA.
He's 40 for 47 stealing 2B in his career and 4 for 4 stealing 3B (1 for 2 in double steals of home). If we knew how many SB opportunities he's had I think those figures would be even more impressive. I don't think you could do much better finding a guy to exploit the new SB rules.
He's a career +3 per 150 G defender in CF, excellent in RF and off the scale good in LF, all with small sample sizes, of course.
The Indians called him up in 2017 in September and he struggled, mostly off the bench, but from 2018 to 2021 he had 478 PA vs. RHP with an 89 wRC+ (.306 wOBA, .303 expected). He's a switch-hitter but has mostly struggled from the right side. Given the defense and the base stealing, this is a very adequate platoon starting CF.
He was with the Yankees org in 2021, missing some AAA time early, then hitting .272 / .409 / .369 in 128 PA when he was called in mid-July when Judge went on the IL. He hit .270 / .417 / .432 (with a strange reverse platoon split) in 48 PA and got sent down only after Stanton came off the IL as well ... and then hit .373 / .473 / .555 in 133 PA the rest of the way in AAA.
The Pirates claimed him on waivers, apparently with the intention of giving him a shot at starting, but he was out until July 5, had 7 rehab starts, then never hit at all (.186 / .260 / .271 in 134 PA).
The catch here is that if they move Kiké to 2B and trade for a CF who projects better than a 7-9 hitter (like Laureano), which is the plan I think is better, then either you need to fill the last roster spot with a LH-hitting infielder, or you need to use Conner Wong at 2B as the second reserve infielder. (Turner has 1 inning at 2B since 2015.) Does anyone have a sense as to whether Wong could handle a traditional (no shifts) 2B adequately?
