Has anyone else seen Alfaro’s home/away splits from last year?? They’re absolutely crazy
136 wRC away vs. 52 wRC at home 120 wRC against LHP 80 wRC against RHP
Definitely more interesting than at first glance, I’d almost see Wong in a super sub role (I think he has experience at 2B too)

Sherriff has a couple scoreless innings in the WS under his belt, that’s not something you see a lot out of fringe players

From what I just saw RT'd, yikes Well, I just read the Bible passage he cited and it's quite reasonable. It says that sexual perverts will not inherit the Kingdom of God. (You know, like a sizable percentage of the Catholic clergy.)
It's Kermody and not Jesus who has classified homosexuals as perverts. Which, of course, is demonstrably false, in numerous ways.
I was friendly with the great science fiction and horror author Thomas M. Disch (better known as the author of The Brave Little Toaster.). He was in a loving gay relationship for decades, and he took his own life about a year after his partner died, when, in his absence, he couldn't deal with new life stressors. I really want this guy canceled off the roster.

Jimmy Carter had it right, Jesus never preached against homosexuals nor would he have. I have 8 PhD level credits in Theology and historic sociology is pretty much my hobby outside of baseball. ADD: 'Sexual perverts' is not a correct translation of Hebrew.

ADD: 'Sexual perverts' is not a correct translation of Hebrew. Classics professor here: The New Testament was not written in Hebrew but in Ancient Greek. The Greek words in 1 Corinthians 6:9 (a passage Dermody cites in one tweet) are hard to pin down or understand with precision. Over the years they have been translated as effeminate, homosexuals (a word and to a certain extent a concept invented in the late 1800s), or (as Eric says) sexual perverts. "From the time of Martin Luther, it was interpreted as referring to masturbation. More recently, it has been translated as referring to homosexuals. Each translator seems to take whatever activity that their society particularly disapproves of and use it in this verse" (first link below) Others argue that the passage in Corinthians refers to having sex with enslaved boy prostitutes, or sex with male children more generally (second link). Some argue that the passage is referring to a passage in Leviticus (which was in Hebrew, and later in Greek) which some think is less ambiguous, but others argue that there too it is not about same-sex relations but (as the context shows) same-sex incest: “Sexual intercourse with a close male relative should be just as abominable to you as incestuous relationships with female relatives” (third link below). Many would argue that getting sexual advice from 2000-2500 year old books is not the best idea. The list of other things that Leviticus prohibits is long and even funny. One thing is certain: Jesus never said one word about any of this. whosoever.org/the-bible-and-homosexuality-i-corinthians-69/www.bibleandhomosexuality.org/st-paul-1-corinthians-and-homosexuality/blog.smu.edu/ot8317/2016/05/11/leviticus-1822/

Gee, maybe it's a problem when Bronze and Iron Age superstitions are forced upon society by those whose actually goal is to wield undeserved power over others.?

Languages, except Hebrew, evolve. Jesus would have spoken Hebrew, not Greek. Example, Petra, rock in Hebrew, pebbles in Greek. "Upon this rock...." Haha, I've had the Leviticus argument for ages. In reality, the parts most quoted were written in the 8th century. Even worse, the old testament changes the context. The original was referring to Lavitican Rabii, not to the general public. ADD Other atrocious changes, Hades, witches, warlocks, sodomy (and especially Sodom and Gomorah's sin (inhospitality not homosexuality).

Agreed, while it wasn't Baseball related, what a totally mature and interesting discussion/read for an online sports message board, taking on subject matter that could have devolved into a total $*it $how. I'm thoroughly impressed. That being said, the guy seems like a not so interesting pitcher, fringe stuff, ultimate journeyman. It's hard to find the upside here other than just a warm body, more spaghetti to throw at the wall.

This is the minor league free agent thread! Nobody likes the guy….I got that ten comments ago…..

Maybe the moderators can move these to a new THEOLOGY THREAD. This is the minor league free agent thread! Nobody likes the guy….I got that ten comments ago….. How dare an intelligent conversation break out in a baseball forum Let's immediately resume plotting how we can use this signing to support our increasingly polarized viewpoint that Bloom is the best/worst front-office executive in memory. I have noticed that as time goes on I personally have less and less patience for supporting players whose personal beliefs I find offensive - there's plenty of possible reasons for that, and several of them probably reflect negatively on me, but 20 years ago I was a lot more willing to look the other way about what a player did off the field, if I liked who he was on it. I will also say that fans in general seem a lot more willing to forgive 'transgressions' on the field due to age, compared to off of it. Every so often people will pass off a fight or theft or something as immaturity, but in general, "he's young and inexperienced, give him a chance and he'll learn" is a pretty common response to something that happens on the field, and pretty rare when something like personal beliefs are involved.

It is ironic what and how much is tolerated here. Covid was ok if you bash Sale, Houck, and Duran, but not ok if you were on the other side…… I come here for baseball only! If I wanted politics and theory I would go somewhere else! Edit: !!!!!

1 side of a discussion into total non sports was tolerated, despite numerous cease and desist warnings. Reason? nobody bothered to post anything against it.
Books written in any language and translated will never be the exact same. Each time they are subject to various words and meaning(s) varying, not to mention the personal opinions of the translator and "maybe this is what the writer should have said" written into a translation.
Now it's safe to clean up what appears to be nearly 1 page of political clap-trap.

I recognize that nothing I post is likely to change anyone's mind about something they feel strongly about for whatever reason, whether it's politics, religion or anything else but I'm going to post it anyway:
My money's on Niko Goodrum to make the biggest impact of any of the MLFAs. I can't shake the image of him dashing home with the winning run in a big game.
