I would be intrigued but he underwent labrum and rotator cuff surgery last week on his right shoulder. Maybe he’s worth a stash but I don’t think we would be able to swing that with the 40 man and don’t think he’s worth it and it’s not a great sign the Rays don’t think so either. But it is an interesting decision because he looked like money when he was healthy obviously.

Mike Zunino 1/6 to Cleveland
I think the Red Sox were said to have asked about him

Rays designated J.P. Feyereisen for assignment. Pretty surprising move. I'd rather have him eat a 40-man spot than a couple of these bums.

I got say: I’m quite surprised that the Orioles have been very quite this offseason. I remember their GM saying that they’re entering the next phase of their rebuilt and will be very agressive in the FA market this offseason. I really thought they’ll be players for a big time SS.

More totally reasonable post-Winter Meetings contracts

I like that deal. Wouldn’t have minded one bit of the Sox had done that. At this point my standards are lowering a lot I just want one more arm to protect against Paxton. Just an arm. Almost any arm. Stripling to me meant lower standards when I read the rumors this morning, so I don’t know where to go after this. We shall see I suppose

I would like Stripling almost as much as Eovaldi straight up, never mind the QO burden. And look what he got.

I think it is possible Evo made the wrong bet and the Red Sox could get him cheaper than we figured. Teams certainly don’t seem to be super intrigued given the QO, loss of velo at the end last year, and injury concerns possibly. At this point it is Kluber or Evo to me. I don’t feel like we are getting Syndergaard. Feels like there is enough interest there from other clubs that the Sox will take a pass. Who knows if they were ever even interested. I wasn’t very that’s for sure.

Correa signs at 13/$385. Gotta say, the teams that have really come away like bandits in all of this are the ones who gave out big contracts over the last 3 years before the market went nutty. Story's deal obviously, but Goldschmidt and Arenado contracts look incredible. The Dodgers with Freeman and Mookie. Cole's contract on the Yankees and Harper's on the Phillies. Even Yelich's contract isn't even that bad anymore, so I think people hoping the Brewers would use Burnes or Woodruff to get out from under it are deluding themselves.

Heyman is reporting that the Yankees are considering Eovaldi a backup plan if they don’t get Rodon.
It feels like that makes some sense for them and could happen. I’ve thought all offseason that the Yankees could get him if they don’t land a top starter. I don’t think Evo is coming back but we will see fairly shortly I think.

Even in the worst case scenario where you’re getting 2+ WAR/season from him, it’s still worth taking on his contract if it nets you Burnes, Woodruff and/or Adames. The only fundamental problem with this is how the Brewers FO has been so vocally against trading these guys this off-season. As mentioned in another thread, I don’t think they part with any of them unless theyre bombing at the trade deadline.

Would have liked the Sox to sign him. That's too bad.

It's not Heyman so it might really be the O's that get him.

Dodgers CBT situation is interesting. They’re currently about $30M below the threshold.. unless Bauer’s suspension gets overturned in which case they’re almost exactly at it.
It seems like they’re trying to avoid going over and getting the third time repeater penalties, but I wonder if they expect Bauer to be reinstated or if they just have no idea.

That's kind of a sneaky graph. Boras is *slightly* better than, e.g., ACES, but they're still very close to the trendline, as is everyone else. They just have a ton more clients which makes it look like they're way off by themselves there.

They just have a ton more clients which makes it look like they're way off by themselves there. Yes, them having more clients does skew the graph a little bit in terms of where the dots are on the graph itself, but having more clients also flat out matters so I think this pretty accurately represents how far and away better he is than everyone else. Also, you'll notice that almost all of the agencies above the trendline are bunched at the far end of the graph, which implies that it's much harder to surpass it the more clients you have. Again, makes his position all that much more impressive.

ZiPS on minor league defense smarter than I thouguht:
Ceddanne 12:54 What inputs is ZiPS looking at when judging minor league defense? AvatarDan Szymborski 12:54 I have a probabilistic total zone measure that I use since I have every hit ball location It's going to obviously be worse than OAA in the majors but using this method in the majors does have a pretty good relationship with OAA I'd love to have even better data to improve it of course
