Renfroe on the move again. After drafting roughly 90 pitchers, the Angels’ master plan is coming into focus: trade them all for Hunter Renfroe

For $330,000,000 I think I'd like my guy to not wait 3 weeks to get the surgery that's going to keep him out until midseason

Soto isn't a free agent, it's just Devers, Ohtani and Matt Chapman among position players. After that you're looking at...31 year old Teoscar Hernandez?

Decent pitching class - Urias, Nola, Montgomery, Darvish, Snell, Giolito, Severino, Wood, Cobb, Montas... And in theory Kershaw, though I'd say he has an informal sinecure with the Dodgers at this point.

Pirates signed Carlos Santana for 1 year 6.7 million even after trading for choi. Chalk that up as a why bother if you ask me. Good for Carlos I guess, I've always liked him but ya don't really get it.

I'd have no clue who did that for them in 2022 without looking it up. Probably some unrecognizable name. Pittsburgh is where you get when your career is coming toward an end. So sad what thus franchise became. They were so damn good in the 1970s and mostly awful since.

I suppose so, I guess it's a way for the team to try and say hey we're trying but at the same time maybe it's shrewd because if either Choi or Santana are playing well they can get some lotto tickets for them. If not they got nothing to lose.

Could still happen but those poor fans have been waiting a long time for relevancy.

Michael Chavis played 107 games at 1B for PIT in 2022. Six at DH. Also 14 at 2B and 9 at 3B.
Cherry finally pulled the plug on Chavis's MLB career, after giving him a full year to prove he was worth that first round pick.
Kind of funny that MLBTR didn't even mention Chavis in either their report on the Choi trade or the Santana signing despite the fact that he was pretty much the Pirates' starting 1B in 2022.

They didn't mention him because he is a free agent. He was DFA in September.

Right, but usually MLBTR will mention who a new acquisition is replacing, i.e. what the team's production was at that position the previous year. Along the lines of "Choi should give the Bucs a boost at 1B compared to their 2022 production. Erstwhile starter Michael Chavis, who played 107 games at the position, slashed a paltry .229/.265/.389, good for -0.2 bWAR...."

As with anything depends on price before I'll call it a slam dunk but he should provide them better production at first than they got this year by a relatively healthy amount which is kind of scary to think that lineup got deeper.

Even if the 3 year deal is an overpay, you'd have to assume that it's not that insane of an overpay where Abreu doesn't have the opportunity to earn that entire deal with his play next year. Something like 3/39 maybe.

They need to get 7 war out of him for his 36-37-38 seasons to break even. Not a bet I'd make but not totally crazy IMO

Would like to have him at DH in our lineup. No doubt Bloom inquired but got turned off by the term.

Probably not a deal I'd have wanted to give him if it's 3/60 but don't think that's too crazy a deal for a team like Astros trying to bolster the chances of repeating.
Hopefully with abreu being the first bigger domino to fall that we get some more movement here.

For 3 years. Wild overpay. I think 3/39-3/45 is fair, but this might be the market. I would be pissed if the Sox gave him 20 million a year, but they're in a much different situation than Houston where Houston is a year in and out contender to win the World Series and the Sox just finished in last for the 2nd time in 3 years. So...it makes sense for Houston though.
