I am jumping off the Cora train. These fundamentals are a shat show. IMO, not really the manager's job in MLB. This isn't high school JV. That's on the players. He obviously forgot how to manage 5 years after leading them to their best season ever.

Didn't realize the game was early today. Guess I didn't miss anything. Have to say - getting swept by the rough, tough Pittsburgh Pirates at home....not overly impressive.
This team looks as mediocre as the team that ended last season. It's early, but I really thought that they'd get off to a better start, at home against so-so/mediocre/bad teams. Maybe the Red Sox truly are a mediocre/bad team. It's really early, but so far I can't say I'm overly impressed. Fortunately Ryan McKenna dropped a final out and Duvall took full advantage, otherwise they'd be 1-5.

I am more worried about the offense more than anything. Besides Turner, Verdugo, Devers, the Sox have a bunch of unprovens and role players. At least until Story comes back.

I keep thinking that we see getting swept by the Pirates as a missed opportunity. But in Pittsburgh they might easily be saying “we really should sweep a last place team early to have a chance.”
I mean… we like to think about who the weak teams are we should beat but… what if the Sox ARE that team?

You certainly have a point, I talked myself into being cautiously optimistic on the 2023 Sox but they were horrible for large portions of 2022 and the recipe is certainly there for them to be just as bad if not worse this year if guys like Casas and Yoshida have prolonged growing pains at the ML level and the pitching doesn't get better/healthy in a hurry. I would agree with what many have said the margin for error for this Sox squad is low so if we're a month into the season and 5-10 games under .500 I'd probably have little to no faith that it's going to get much better. To me it's very important for them to hover around .500 until they can get the rotation healthy and get guys like Mondesi and Story back.

The 2022 World Series champion Houston Astros were swept by the 60 win A's and lost series to the Red Sox, Angels, and Marlins. The NL Champion Phillies were swept by the Rangers and Cubs, and lost series to the Marlins, Rockies and Diamondbacks. It's baseball boys, good teams lose to bad teams all the time.
That's not to say we know the Red Sox are a good team and the Pirates are a bad team yet, but we're six games in and it's too early to make summary judgements on a team that does have clear potential.
