I get they're just trying things out, but I don't understand why you wouldn't just go with the option where you get all the calls right instead of just some of them.

It's basically the happy medium between the dueling arguments of "just use the technology" and "keep the human element", so I would guess it's the most likely to eventually be put into practice in the MLB. Keeps both sides appeased.

100% chance of a cheating scandal if they do the challenge system in MLB and expect the pitcher/catcher to not receive any signal from anyone that might be immediately getting the right answer on their computer

I don't understand not being able to consult the dugout. There's still a pitch clock so it's not like you're going to slow the game down.

I guess the idea is that they want to promote the skill of being able to judge the strike zone on the part of the players, rather than just deferring immediately to the judgment of the machines. I kind of like it.

Hot take: all challenge systems are stupid. I don't care about manager strategy and all this (ooh, is it too early to use your challenge?), just get the call right with as little delay as possible.

Dalton Rogers strikes out the side in the 4th and hit 94 on the gun on his final pitch.

Speaking of Ravelo -
If you click on his player page and look at his stats, it shows his age as being 21 this year. But his bio and DOB puts him at 19 years old.
I need to know how excited I want to get over this kid!

Ravelo doesn’t even need to hit a ton to be a guy, the offense so far is pretty exciting

Is there any way to find out league average BA, OBP etc for the various minor leagues without doing all the math yourself?

Strong agree. I've heard people say (not just in this thread) that it adds an element of "skill" in evaluating the strike zone before you challenge, but that skill already does and would continue to exist – it's called choosing whether to swing or not. Half-measures are just tedious. I don't tune in to see which team is better at guessing when calls are wrong. If they have the technology to just get the calls right, they should do it – and I'm extremely confident that if/when it's implemented, halfway into the season nobody is going to be sitting there going "man, I wish we had gone with the option where some of the calls were still wrong."
