Where does he slot? Top 5? 7? I think our farm system has improved a lot so 9/10 feels about right.

From the MLB Tracker.....
Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 65 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55
Extremely athletic, Teel has seen time in the outfield and probably could handle playing second or third, but he has every chance to stick behind the plate. He has an easily plus arm and his athleticism helps his overall receiving. He gets high marks for his baseball IQ and leadership skills, and with his bat showing up more consistently, his name is floating up Draft boards.

Can't ever argue with taking a consensus Top 8 prospect that falls to you at #14. Think Jason Groome and going back a little before that, to another C which slid to Boston in 3rd rd of 2013? Jon Denny. Not a fan of using a very high pick on any catcher. Hopefully this works out. There is always someone who is not pleased. Comparing the consensus top C in the draft to a Round 3, High School catcher is a little bit of a reach for me.

Good place for him to go and perhaps fix his swing.

I look at the SP top 10 as having a third tier (Yorke, Drohan, Perales, Romero, Winkelman) that Yorke is clearly atop. I would probably slot Teel between Perales and Romero. I definitely wouldn’t argue with starting him lower than that and I definitely wouldn’t start him any higher than that.

The Red Sox draft room was ecstatic after Teel's selection.

Keith Law · Senior Writer, MLB No. 14: Boston Red Sox take Kyle Teel, C, Virginia
Teel sliding this far is a shock, really — a college catcher who stays at the position, has a track record of hitting, is a good athlete, and played for an elite program in one of the two best conferences in the country doesn't go in the top 10? I'm shocked, but Red Sox fans should be ecstatic. He has some areas to work on, needing especially to improve his production against left-handed pitching, but he's a great athlete for a catcher and it shows up in his running, his movement behind the plate, and even in the bat speed from his quick wrists. He might not have the upside of some of the bats who went before him but I think he could still end up an All-Star at some point, and has a high floor because he can catch.

For those asking: Based on Fangraphs, which is the only apples to apples comparison I can find, he’ll slide in at #5 or #6 in the system, depending on if you value him over Roman Anthony.
Fwiw they have Mayer / Bleis 55, Rafaela / Yorke 50, Anthony / Teel 45+

Bloom's often overlooked talent of having highly rated guys drop into his lap should bode well for us.

Probably a higher floor.

My bringing up those 2 was mostly high rated players slip and sometimes? it's for a reason Also, am thinking Denny was projected as a 1st rounder that year (2013) but believe there were makeup issues before the draft as to why he fell and they proved bigger than the game part.

To be fair people on this board also loved the Denney pick lol.

Based off nothing but the scouting reports read real quickly on Teel he sounds like he could slide in to 6 or so in the farm. Can't say I'd have him above the Mayer, bleis, Rafaela, Anthony or Yorke tier of guys right now but slides in well to that 2nd tier.
