Good to see that Houk is taking the mound today.

Our rotation in Boston is unique, and that is saying it mildly.
Houck, Sale, Whitlock, and Pivetta could all be solid as "piggy-backers". Crawford, Bello, and Paxton hopefully give us 6 innings, but these previous guys, in their own way, could be a powerful boost giving us 3 innings for awhile.
Houck's outing is very important. I hope the (entire) cavalry shows up soon!

Cespedes with a 4-hit game so far with a double and HR in game 1 (the resumed game) of the DSL Blue doubleheader. Want to see some reports on him. Coming into today (min 150 PA) he is 13th in wRC+ in the DSL (10th 18 and under), and almost everyone above him is being buoyed by unsustainable BB rates. He also has the 6th lowest K% in the DSL. Nunez 18th in wRC+ and 17th lowest K% too fwiw

I've said it previously, that I don't know the dynamics behind how the organization handles players like Cespedes who are only 17, but doing the absurd stuff that he is. But aren't they getting to a point where they have to bring him to FCL at the very least? He became my favorite Sox international prospect over these past two months.

There are non-baseball reasons why it's very unlikely you'll see players come stateside the year they sign.

Mayer to the IL with left shoulder inflammation.
Looks like he didn't just forget how to hit, apparently.
Clearly this is my fault for living near Bowie.

Lyonell James got drilled by a 95 mph Susana fastball and was on the ground for a couple minutes. Was able to walk off but he’s out of the game.
Then Johnfrank Salazar got his revenge with a deep grand slam to left.

Jedixson Paez pitched another really nice game.
6 IP, 2 H, 0 Ear, 1 BB, 1 Ks.
His last 6 outings dating back to the end of June: 31 IP, 16 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 23 Ks.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that if he continues to develop and add more muscle, he could be one of our top pitching prospects (if not the top) in two years. I didn’t realize how young he is, but he’s only 19. He won’t turn 20 until January of next year. He’s throwing 89-91 right now, but if he can turn that into 92-95 with his command and three pitches, then that’s a damn good pitching prospect. And he looks the part of a true starter, I don’t think he’s going to end up in the bullpen like some of the guys ranked ahead of him. Could his velo plateau here and he struggles to make it out of AA? Sure. But I think he could have a decent ceiling of a starting pitcher.
Gilberto Jimenez looks as good as I’ve ever seen him. Lots of hard contact. Still not confident in his ability to put it together, but it’s the best look I’ve had at him.
It was my first time seeing Mikey Romero the last couple of days. I like his chances to stay at shortstop. He made a nice play tonight on a hard hit ball that got a bit of an in between hop. At the plate, he’s got some nice bat speed but I think he’s going to take some time to develop. The first thing that stood out to me is that he’s kind of small in the upper body. Again, he’s only 19 but I think he’ll continue to get better as he matures into his body.
