Corral released, Zappe to 53 man roster. I'm surprised, I really thought they'd use the 3 options before doing that. They must feel they need to call up two other players for depth, one RB for sure and? Perhaps Calvin Munson or something. Jack Jones may hit IR with his hamstring so maybe a DB? If they do it, yeah Munson or Bledsoe would be my picks. |

Ty Montgomery SIGNED to 53 (not just elevation) to replace Jack Jones (IR).
Also, Corral placed on exempt list after missing practice for non-injury.
Edit - Munson is getting elevated

Corral, based on what I'm hearing about this list, is that it has to be approved by the NFL and while it's a generic list, it sounds like the most common usages are things like criminal or family emergencies. It's not a list the patriots can just use to stash a guy. Edit: It's generic, so really could be anything. I can't imagine criminal since he literally just signed off waivers and I can't see the Patriots not just cutting him immediately if it were. So, hope all is well at home/with the family. |

So many reasons why this being a suspension is unlikely.
1. Open up to investigation from the league for circumventing roster rules.
2. Why make him miss 4 without knowing how many the league would want?
3. If you do it as IR, the league could say he still needs to be suspended.
There are others but that's the quick list.

Apparently so. Jeff Howe reported he tweaked his hamstring Wednesday afternoon at practice.

I could be wrong, but the first practice back he experiences pain and then goes on IR before week 1 is a bit suspect.
In regards to the points,
1. Do you believe NFL teams don't use the IR to manipulate rosters? If so, when has the NFL investigated improper usage?
2. It's possible the Patriots ownership doesn't want him out there week 1. I'm assuming the Patriots would be in communication with the league to argue he's going to miss the first 4 weeks or simply have an idea where the league office is leaning with a decision.
And I do acknowledge it could be coincidental timing, the timing I just find highly suspect.

We can now add the fact that reports are suggesting he could be out 2 months. So if 4 games aligned with what you believe his suspension should be, does that change now that it could be 8?

Sometimes the explanation is the easiest one. If he's indeed out longer than the 4 week minimum then it's likely a legitimate injury. If he comes right back and looks explosive it'd raise an eyebrow. And team suspension. Considering they put him on IR right before game 1 it seems like they gave him the maximum number of reps before shelving him. |

I read he just left the team. Hasn't been there for practice or meetings in the last 2 days. So, they cut him. Weird guy.

The Patriots planned on calling up Zappe from PS and using Coral as the emergency QB. The rules states that the emergency QB had to be on your 53 man roster, they didn’t say you couldn’t elevate a QB from the PS to serve as your number 2 and use the QB on the 53 as the emergency QB. NFL “clarified” the rule this week. Which means they changed the rule because they didn’t write it correctly. I'm confused, they just released Corral. They could have simply deactivated him for game, brought up Zappe and not had a 3rd QB as an emergency guy, as they don't currently have one now. Giving you a few more weeks to see how Corral does. I see so much talk about that, I never understood it. Corral won't be ready for playing in a game for weeks or likely longer. He’s not released first and foremost. But regardless of that, they were likely being the Patriots and trying to manipulate the roster to not have to use 3 spots on QBs, but still have the protection over the first 3 weeks while they sorted out the glut of offensive linemen. |

This is a special exception granted by the NFL that teams have to apply for. This would be harder to manipulate. |
