Everyone on that Chargers staff needs to be fired after this game.

Zappe is a ton better than Mac.

Zappe made the needed throws, players didn't make the catches, but that's what you need to do. My worry is unlike Jones he improves and builds chemistry over the remaining games.

Pats did their job. Lets hope Arizona can do theirs. And maybe Carolina...

Zappe just took responsibility for Thornton deep ball. Nice kid but the correct answer was the pass ' was there.' If Stevenson doesn't go down early they probably win this one. A 7-6 W would have been nice for the rain-soaked fans but they will have to think about draft position instead.
Someone needs to tell Thornton to repeat to himself "run through the ball, run through the ball, run through the ball...

Juju 1-10 yards with new QB he's still terrible, at least we know it's not Mac fault all season. Mac would have thrown two interception in this game, but Zappe kept his head straight which was refreshing.

Seems like there's some chemistry with Parker and maybe Thorton. Douglas and Stevenson being healthy make this a win. No idea why this Chargers team is so bad. Also, amazing seeing all the other games scores and then seeing the Patriots, who are now 1-3 when the defense holds the opposing offen to 10 or fewer points. Just once do I want to see them lose 21-17.

Zappe is just as bad as Mac if not worse, this is one of the worst passing defenses in football No turn overs yet and he has no WRs. No Douglas, no Boutte, no Bourne and they were moving before Stevenson got hurt. With Stevenson he was diverting attention. Zero (0) points. Glad he crept over 50% completion on mostly dump offs tho.

I do not understand the narrative that is unfolding in this thread

Parker if he could get the foot inbound on his catch. If Stevenson doesn't fumble on his injury, they're at least set up to miss a 23 yard FG or whatever.

Ok so he could have had 3 points against an awful defense, party in the USA. He’s really bad. Mac has dealt with similar stuff all season At least when mac got shut out it was against a good defense I’m not worried about Bailey Zappe building off of a zero point performance. Maybe he ramps up to a couple field goals next week, then he’ll really be cooking. The fact of the matter is he’s inaccurate and his arm isn’t particularly good, not an ideal combo for a qb

It’s the same stuff as Mac. The pocket presence is better at this point since Mac’s is the worst in football now, but the result ain’t any better! There’s a reason why he was waived and nobody wanted him.

There’s a reason why he was waived and nobody wanted him. OL was crap today, worst pass blocking since Onwenu moved to RT. Mack is a beast and just dominated everyone. There's a difference missing guys under pressure and doing it when you have time! Nevermind down two WRs, with Bourne already out, his first start of the year. He got better as game went along, multiple good deep throws. The bar isn't high, but he looked good given the above.

No. But the bomb to Thornton or Parker not keeping his toe in both could have led to points. Stevenson fumble took points off the board as well. The whole offense collapsed when Stevenson went down. The offensive line was also terrible and not having Pop Douglas really hurt. Bailey did make plays with his legs though, something Mac can't. Henry also didn't make a catch he should have earlier in the game. I think Zappe needs to start the rest of the way. He should some ability to move the offense and protect the football. This was his first week getting all the starter reps. I mean, that Thornton ball could have been a touchdown.

It’s amazing we are at the point of arguing our QB looked good in a game we scored 0 points.

It’s amazing we are at the point of arguing our QB looked good in a game we scored 0 points. It’s truly mind-numbing Oh he had a bad offensive line and no WR? Sounds like Mac for most of his time starting and we called him bad for scoring 0 points! They both suck. Zappe showed nothing other than an ok pocket presence. Ok pocket presence doesn’t matter when you’re not accurate and don’t have a good arm and aren’t great at processing. If Zappe is considered good then Tommy Devito is the next Montana, they must be needing new shorts after watching his highlights as he scores 7 points

Mac has thrown a few of those deep balls that were dropped and I’d argue they were higher quality throws It’s weird to watch one get excused and the other get trashed. They’re the same thing. I want to see Zappe lead a field goal drive before we say he’s good! How did he show we could move the ball? He threw for 140 yards and scored 0 points! Mac’s offense would actually move the ball and put together the occasional sustained drive, the only issue is that he’d throw an atrocious pick after doing so lol At least Tim Boyle’s offense scored points

Mac was mainly getting crushed because he'd get them to the Red zone and throw a lazy, flat footed interception. I will say it's fair that the Charges have the last ranked defense. I just think it was more about how awful everyone else was rather than how terrible Zappe was. You have to admit to having been a bit worried with how well the team was moving the ball with Stevenson out there. Yeah, 7-14 points offensively still isn't good enough in today's game, especially against the leagues worst defense. So, getting 0 is pretty bad. I just think one pile of garbage showed a little more upside than the other pile of trash. They better draft 2 QBs next year.

Fingers crossed that it won't impact him next year.

Zappe threw such wabbly ducks that the refs couldn’t even over turn the call that the ball wasn’t tipped at the line.
