A perfect Kimbrel save in the playoffs? Am I waking up in an alternate universe?? In the midst of his shaky 2018 postseason, in Game 2 of the 2018 World Series, with a Sox ahead 4-2, he somehow had a nine-pitch save. His Game 4 World Series outing re-traumatized us and apparently did the same to Cora when he stayed away from him in Game 5 lol

He was also perfect in Gane 1, protecting an 8-4 lead and he did a good job in a game 3, but gave up a 2 run HR to Kiké Hernandez with a 5 run lead on Game 4. If I'm not mistaken Eric Gagne called Alex Cora after Game 4 of the ALCS and told him that Kimbrel was tipping his pitches and they worked on fixing that and Kimbrel closed out the pennant clinching 4-1 victory without too much drama.

The Braves and Dodgers just had 5 days off before their first games in these series. Now they get another day off. Then one more game, and a day off after that. They'll have played 2 games in 9 days at that point.
I wonder if this scheduling is really doing any favors for the top two seeds in the NL. Or if it's a coincidence that the four teams that sat out the wild card round went 1-3 and only one of them scored more than two runs.

I was just talking to my wife about this. It would be ironic if the structure that was designed to disadvantage wild card teams ended up helping them. MLB both loves and hates its wild cards. You can tell it drives them crazy when a lower seed wins a championship, so they try to invent obstacles, like playing the whole first round on the road. Next we'll see the lower seeds having to play in handcuffs, or with alligators on the field.

Kershaw is not a very good postseason pitcher. He's basically David Price. The Dodgers would be thrilled if he had 3 post-season starts that David Price had in the ALCS and World Series. I know David Price was the punch line to that joke, but those 3 starts should have changed the narrative somewhat. I mean, honestly, he could have been the 2018 World Series MVP and he would have deserved it. That's true, but even with that performance he still had a 4.6+ ERA. But he did the job we needed him to do.

But he did the job we needed him to do. Yeah, he was awful against NYY in the ALDS and he was not good in his next start against Houston in Game 2. That killed his stats, but it doesn't alter the fact that he was damn good in clinching Game 5 of the ALCS blanking Houston over 6 innings, that he beat LA on Game 2 with 2 runs in 6 innings, pitched effective relief in Game 3, and then after giving up a HR on his first pitch of clinching Game 5, the Dodgers didnt touch him for 7 innings. He easily could have gotten MVP of the Series if Pearce didnt hit his 2nd HR of Game 5 in the 8th to grab the award. There is no more high leverage games than the Wirld Series. I mean, what the hell do the they play for that means more? I feel Price certainly got the monkey off his back. I never cared for David Price but I certainly wasnt bitching about his contract during that Series, lol.

I can’t decide who’s the more fraudulent 100 wins team? The 2021 SF Giants or the 2023 O’s team?

Re: BAL-TEX: Baltimore hasn't been swept in a series of 3 games or more since May of 2022... how funny would it be if it happened when they finally made the playoffs. 🤷♂️

I never cared for David Price but I certainly wasnt bitching about his contract during that Series, lol. When he was signed, a mate asked me what I thought of the contract. I said, if he is a big part of multiple championships, it's a 10. If he's a big part of one championship, it's a 9. If he's great in the regular season and consistently helps us get to October, it's an 8. If he's a big part of a team that consistently makes the playoffs but the ace, it's a 7. Otherwise, it's a 1.
Going by that, I give the contract a 9. He got us there when it counted. FFF.

Seager has tied the record for walks in a playoff game (4, shared by Big Papi) in the 5th inning.
The playoff record for walks by a team is 12; the Orioles have already walked 9.

The formula is clearly have 2 top notch, SPs, a good bullpen and a good lineup. I mean that was us in 2004. You can’t win in the playoffs with Meh starters

My remark about them being frauds is their unusual record in 1 run games and unsustainable avg with RISP.

With the exception of HOU, the higher seeds look soft. It’s definitely too much time off while their competition is playing meaningful games. As for the Dodgers, imagine winning 100 games and having to start Kershaw in game 1? They are missing(for various reasons) Urias, Buehler, May & Gonsolin. They look like they are in big trouble.

Anybody but the Astros or Dodgers. Love the Diamondbacks. The other teams are fine. Phillies would be acceptable but annoying…for obvious reasons. The posts here would be unbearable.

Ballgame.
The Astros fans are really obnoxious. Every single pitch that goes against them in a 6-0 game (eventually 6-2) draws boos. So many reasons to root against them.
