Had to know Barnes would start pitching better when just two start ago batters had a BABIP of over .500 against him. Knew that wouldn't last. Not that this necessarily applies to Barnes, but high BABIPs aren't always a fluke. Within the context of major league baseball and pitchers who are good enough to be at that level, they usually are. But a pitcher who's totally overmatched and just getting straight up rocked is going to post a high BABIP too. Obviously. Be we know Barnes isn't overmatched. Just struggled.

But to actually answer the question, Brentz came out of yesterday's game after a collision. Bogaerts out today with "tightness in his core" whatever that means. My guess is he might've gone a bit too hard during a post- or pre-game workout and tweaked something slightly? I'm clueless here. Still better than the constant' "manager's decision" we're getting on Iglesias. Iglesias got thrown out on a SB attempt if I remember correctly. Possibly he has been running over the manager's objections? Or he could be involved in some intense trade discussions. Heh, it is possible. Drew has been playing better and better for a while. And we do have Ciriaco with Bogaerts coming up maybe next year. Drew is on a one year deal though so none of this is likely. Just saying it's possible. Can't count on Bogaerts being ready in 2014 either. Anyone noticing that the Twins have some decent farm talent coming up. It would be a good time for them to retool. They have some solid young players becoming available soon but are probably a long way from contending still. Maybe the Sox feel like they are ready now and could just use a solid piece at catcher. Maybe a certain left handed catcher. Both teams very familiar with each other's talent. 2 teams which are very good trade candidates. Just noting the near impossible but if I were both teams I would be considering it. It seems that the Yanks could be shopping for good catching also. Did they really plan to go to this year with Cervelli? Do they and the Redsox know something we do not know? If the Twins wanted to trade Mauer they wouldn't leak it to anyone. They would just pull the trigger but the deal would have to be good. Morneau is not helping them. And he doesn't appear that he will be anytime soon. Mauer is a huge fan draw but in some ways he should be a trade candidate in the Minnesota market. He's not worth that much if they never win. A very complicated dynamic and all total speculation. The chances of any of this being valid are very small. I just believe in considering very detailed scenarios. Sometimes the pieces fit together. At some point in time.

Iglesias grounded out to first base before coming out of the game.
Brian MacPherson said on Twitter tonight that he'd made kind of a lax throw to first base the inning prior.

Iglesias grounded out to first base before coming out of the game. Brian MacPherson said on Twitter tonight that he'd made kind of a lax throw to first base the inning prior. Just took another look at these in the milb.tv archive. He made a sensational-but-normal-for-Iggy play on Rich Thompson's grounder in the fourth. My sense watching the Bourgeois grounder was that he should have held the ball--he threw in midair, and the throw was well up the line, with Snyder snagging it a couple of steps off the base. I thought seeing it live that Bourgeois would have beaten a good throw, but that's less clear on replay. Iggy did then stop several steps out of the box on the ground ball to the first baseman. He could see the play in front of him, and he wasn't going to cover 60 feet faster than Gimenez would cover 6, but it's probably not the attitude that a manager wants to see.
