The one that stands out to me is Asencio. Aggressive ranking for a 17-year-old international signee who I don't think has played professionally yet. Hopefully BA is on to something there! He got a 7-figure bonus so I get the hedge. Plus there's always the phenomenon we discuss that if you have a certain number of spots, sometimes you're going to want to get certain guys on there, so you may be inclined to include them in, say, a top 30 whereas if you had 40 spots, that guy might rank a bit lower. Not saying that definitely happened here, and it's less of a thing now that BA updates more often, but it is a thing.

Campbell is lower than I would have thought. The list was probably formed a week+ ago so in that case it wouldn’t be surprising. Plus, Campbell is a 3 year college player with a 30% K rate in A+ ball. I don’t know that we’ll find out much about him until he is in Portland and I would really hope his ability to make contact starts showing in Greenville before then. Toolsy types like him are fun to track though

Ignoring what seems to be an outlier of a ranking from 69 to 42 I will just be happy to see that type of leap. I would have to think if Mayer keeps producing the way he has so far this season he will make some other nice jumps in the other prospect rankings, obviously not rises of 27 or so since BA, MLB.com have him top 20 already and ESPN at 28 but still. Part of that will be a couple guys in front of him graduating but either way his start to the season is very encouraging to show what a healthy Mayer can do.

It's pretty awesome to see the big three all get hot in May.
Allow me to live in Hypothetical la la land for a moment, but all three push their way onto the 2025 roster and compete for ROY. Sox net pick, win world series, Miguel Bleis, Yoenis Cespedes and <other> replace them as top 50 prospects.

Spencer Jones still at #16 is a choice...

If Spencer Jones has a million haters, I'm one of them. If Spencer Jones has ten haters, I'm one of them. If Spencer Jones has one hater, it's me. If Spencer Jones has no haters, I'm dead. If the world is for Spencer Jones, then I'm against the world. Etc.

Theyve always been low man on Mayer’s defense. Everyone else seems to have had him between average and good. It’s interesting they still have him rated so low even after seemingly upgrading the defense

We’re really flirting with reverse jinxing Jones.

Kiley McDaniel with ESPN released his updated top 50 prospects. Anthony at 15, Mayer at 20, Teel at 46. He does list a number of 2024 draft eligible players with asterisks where they would currently slide in. He has Condon slotted between Salas and Christian Scott at 17-18 so Mayer I guess would be 21 if/when the draftees are added. Teel would be just outside the top 50.
For reference preseason he had Anthony at 23, Mayer at 28 and Teel at 61 so some modest jumps for the big 3. Mostly the jumps are due to the graduation or near graduation of players he has now excluded. 6 in the preseason top 20, 7 more in the top 21-53.
