They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Just as this was the year for Crystal Palace to sweep Manchester United, I believe this is the year the Sox will win the season series against Tampa Bay.

Nice to see TBD has been dropped from the rotation.

I am liking Rafaela in CF, Gonzalez at SS, and one of Cooper/Smith not playing baseball.

I am liking Rafaela in CF, Gonzalez at SS, and one of Cooper/Smith not playing baseball. And that one of Cooper/Smith not playing baseball should be Smith:
Cooper career vs. RHP: 106 wRC+
Smith career vs. RHP: 96 wRC+
And Smith has been more conspicuously in decline for years now. I see zero use for him on this team.

Cooper did hurt his wrist area twice in the last couple weeks, I'm expecting him to be a total pumpkin right now.

Despite his last two games being his two most productive with the Red Sox so far? I think he'll be okay. At least replacement level. My expectations for Smith are lower than that.

I'm pretty much totally uninterested in Smith playing, but clearly they want a backup, lefty, 1B. I would be interested in trying Kavadas out, but I don't see them giving up the fungibility of the 40 man spot yet, particularly if Casas might return in like 6 weeks.

Eh, we're at 39 with Dalbec, Smith and Heineman being easy cuts, plus Walter to the 60 day IL, plus I count two pitchers that you don't mind cutting Kavadas is Rule 5 eligible and it's starting to look like they'll need to protect him to keep him, which makes it easier to call him up now. I am all for Niko getting a shot.

It'll be interesting to see the tables turned and the Rays without their miracle holographic monocrystalline orb which was stolen by Bailey and kept where the sun doesn't shine.

Yeah interesting, I thought the 40 man was tighter for some reason. Maybe they just think there was something real to Smith's hot streak at the end of last year. Or they do not believe strongly in Kavadas.

Using wOBA, Sox have had the 4th best offense in MLB ... with the bases empty. They're 11th with just a runner on first.
They're 23rd with RISP, down three slots from a week ago. They're 28th in RISP vs. empty, ahead of only the Cardinals and the Blue Jays.
Devers, Abeu Refsynder and (just a bit) Hamilton have been better than average in both, while Duran, McGuire and Yoshida have been below average with empty and above with RISP. But no one has been better than MLB average with empty and even better with RISP. Devers comes the closest-- he's .364 empty, .011 better with RISP when average MLB is .021 better.
The problem really boils down to three guys with huge splits. I'll subtract the .021 that is built in when there's RISP.
Casas .441 / .073 O'Neil .540 / .212 Wong .451 / .260
Compare Duran:
.294 / .395

b-Ref's ranking has the Sox in a 3-way tie for 4th, after the Dodgers, O's, and Braves, alongside the Yankees and Royals.
The Rays are fourth worst. Hoping for a sweep is reasonable.

Harold Ramírez has a 1.4% BB Rate, how the f*** do you walk him with 2 outs? He deserves every run he allowed.

There were no runs in with a runner on first and two out. The two-out unravelings have been happening a lot lately.

Kinda weird that with nothing working that there wasn't a single curve or splitter in there
