Matthew Lugo just got hit on the wrist in his first at bat against Rochester. He's down in pain and is being looked at by the trainer.
Edit: He stays in the game to run.
Edit2: Niko Kavadas hits the next pitch 430 feet to straight-away center. 5-0 WooSox, and Thaddeus Ward has yet to record an out.

Lugo was swinging into the pitch, I'm worried even though he stayed in to run
Ward getting obliterated. Three run Hickey HR, two run Kavadas HR, zero outs.

Simas is replacing Lugo in RF to start the 2nd inning. We can't have nice things.

Mayer had a good line drive single to the opposite field off a lefty, which is really nice to see. Anthony (reached on HBP) later scores on an infield single by Campbell. Little dribbler down the third base line that the third baseman seemed to field only reluctantly. Radio announcer described it as "laced down the third base line" which gave me a good chuckle.
Weather seems really lousy. I think it was Paulino drying the bat between his legs between pitches.

Wow, no wonder Greenvill, high A, is 12 games under .500. Their TOP hitter in tonight's lineup is at .231. Four other guys in that lineup are below Mendoza....likely a .210 cumulative team average or below. Oooff.

Believe Anthony was robbed. That ball looked to be gone, not a double as called.

A lot of people were mad about letting Thad Ward get away in Rule 5; he has a 6.15 ERA and 5.24 FIP in AAA this season.
(Whereas I was mad about letting Shane Drohan get away in Rule 5; he... has an 8.68 ERA and 5.44 FIP in 10 appearances rehabbing in the minors.)
I was not sad about letting either go…. Ward today 1 2/3 innings, 5 runs (which included 2 HRs) pushing his ERA upwards toward 7….ouch Breslow has found pitchers outside the organization that he has had some success with.

109 mph, 484 feet on the Brooks Brannon HR I need him to stay healthy. His injury playing career has obviously been very choppy so it’s hard to put much stock in his numbers, but he hits a lot of dingers. Suspect contact and chase perhaps, but any kid his age/experience hitting 484 feet bombs has my attention.

A high bonus (relative to 9th round) dude who flashes that kind of power and who might catch And he can barely crack the top 40 right now 31-40 looks like 11-20 in lean years
