Seems like we gotta keep our eye on this Avinson Pinto kid, they just gave him minor league defender of the month. Got a good triple slash in the DSL. Plays SS

Easily the fewest starts made by a starter of the month in team history...
"We really don't need the whole commercial break/warm-up routine every time a new reliever comes into the game. It certainly made sense in 1884 when they only switched pitchers when the starter was attacked by pickaxe or caught consumption, and no reliever was warming up because he was busy gambling and drinking." - JD
I still think I'm going to wake up and say "I shouldn't listen to the podcast before bed, I dreamed the Sox signed a guy from Curaçao named Charlie Zink." - KOC
The game is suspended in the 5th inning, but Juan Medina ($140K bonus, third highest for a pitcher in our current international class) made his debut and pitched a clean inning with one K.

Read a story regarding 44yo former ballplayer (and current IL State Rep) being talked into activated by the AAA Sioux City Explorers when they ran into a temporary roster crunch last Saturday.
Saw today here above Charlie Zink was listed for a DSL game, but not shown in either box score.. This couldn't have been our old friend and knuckleballing Charlie could it. Talked into a short return?

You might want to scroll up and read Chris's sig file.

It was not, it is in fact a new Charlie Zink somehow
The other shoe is bound to drop at some point for Campbell, unless it just doesn't? I'm almost curious to see him and how he rebounds off a slump at this point though. That probably sounds strange, I'm not actively rooting against the guy but he's not maintaining this absolute heater forever.

I still can’t get over his front foot step. Obviously you’re not going to mess with anything this guy is doing. It’s just hard for me to picture generating power and maintaining timing while stepping away from the pitcher and opening your body up that much. I used to step towards third base like that when I was terrified of getting plunked, lol

It's definitely not aesthetically pleasing. Like you said you can't tweak it all that much right now, the results speak for themselves. He's not just blooping hits in there the ball somehow jumps off his bat. He wouldn't be the first guy with a funky looking swing to become a legit MLBer though. One that comes to mind to me is hunter pence. It's a bit of a similar swing to pence and he had some good-great years.

On the Marquez AB, I'm reminded of Bobby Dalbec in High-A Salem. It wasn't so much that he struck out a lot - and he did, a 31% clip, although there was a partially true narrative that he was getting screwed by bad umpiring from guys he understood the zone better than, and I can attest to that in part at least - but that he'd also have these at-bats sometimes with two brutal swings, but then clobber the baseball with 2 strikes. In sum, good, right? We like 2 strike hitting. Thing is, you'd look and be like he's not hitting the third one in the bigs either when it's 98 on the paint or something. Would've been nice to have Z-contact rates and the like.
I feel kind of (KIND OF) similarly about Campbell. It's not a strikeout thing at all, nor do I really have the same concerns I did with Dalbec, so it is different there, but my eyes are saying this just doesn't look like it's going to work in the majors, but then you see what he does on the regular...

I've been mulling over this comp for the past few weeks, but Campbell reminds me of Astros J.D. Martinez(pre-swing change). Absolutely tore through the minor leagues hitting around a .950 OPS from 2009-2011 over 1000 plate appearances, but every scout brought up how awkward his swing looked. Struggled badly once he hit the majors, reworked his swing, and broke out with the Tigers in 2014.
Obviously athletically and positionally they don't match up, but Campbell has that awkward swing that is producing video game numbers in the minors.
