Would he be an AFL candidate? No. Extremely unlikely.

Showing my lack of following of any of the prospects: First time seeing Montgomery, but he looks way too wirery to be 6'2 220. That just sounds thicker than the photos I see.

I think he just has a long neck. He looks pretty muscular (but not in a bulky way at all):

Mayer Teel and Now Montgomery falling to us in 3 of the last 4 years. Each guy we were smart enough to snag. 2 are our top 3 prospects. How fuking AMAZING!!! So proud of this teams drafts and not ever overthinking. The future really looks better and better every single day. I actually would've preferred Lawlor over Mayer, but your point stands, especially Teel falling to 14.

Baseball America has Montgomery with a TrackMan chase rate of 23.3%, overall contact rate of 74.2%, and a 90th percentile exit velocity of 111.1. For reference, that's honestly pretty in line statistically with frequently mentioned potential target Christian Moore (24%, 77%, 111.8) - except Braden Montgomery has the benefit of playing a really strong right field. Obviously from a scouting perspective there's differences in how they got there as college hitters, but the advanced stats end points were pretty similar between the two. Some benefits Montgomery has going for him is that he’s projectable (Moore is physically maxed out), he is just recently focusing solely on being a position player, and he’s a switch hitter and they generally have steeper development curves. Offensively his ceiling is high especially once he fills out a bit more. I wish we could see his splits of these stats from each side of the plate. Yeah, my point is largely that Red Sox fans should be excited! The bat had comparable advanced stats outcomes to someone the Red Sox were mocked to as an advanced bat without a strong defensive home - but there's so much more to the package here comparatively.

Would he be an AFL candidate? No. Extremely unlikely. Might he show up at instrux though? ...is that even still a thing? I'd be surprised if he's himself in the fall though, given the rehab point he'll be starting from. A lot of muscle build-up needed after being in a boot for that long.

Anyone know his splits? Also the update from the A&M site makes it sound like roughly 5 more weeks before he can swing. Would a Sept up of coffee in Salem be realistic?

Monty falling I can kind of see because of injury, but Teel falling was just unbelievable. It was a you had to be there moment on this board for sure.

How much do we know about this? I haven't dived deep but has anyone seen any reports on his fielding, apart from "he has a big arm and not enough speed for CF"? That could describe anyone from Hunter Renfroe to Dewey Evans.

I’m intrigued about his bonus. Lonergan initially tweeted us taking Smith, so I have a hunch that was the plan until they spoke to Montgomery and got his demand. Does that mean he agreed to take around slot rather than his 7/8 ranking? I see Mike’s first guess of 6 mil is a bit over slot.

Slot in at 6? Just above Cespedes and Perales, but behind Campbell and Bleis?

Full disclosure my knowledge level here is a 1.5 on a 1-10 scale. But I’d have to think most kids would have a very hard time turning down 5.45 million dollars. His alternative is to go back to school and hope to do better as a senior with much less leverage.
Of course my opinion is biased because I want the Sox to sign all 14 pitchers and Montgomery

Slot in at 6? Just above Cespedes and Perales, but behind Campbell and Bleis? I'd say he's above all four players mentioned above. Montgomery will be a Top 100 prospect with a 45+ grade that should theoretically place him just behind Teel in our Top 10.

On the pod they were saying he's in the Bleis/Campbell/Cespedes/Perales tier. I think any where 4-8 is probably reasonable, these are all borderling T-100 guys including Montgomery. Most national outlets will probably have him 4 I'd guess though

It's all subjective but I'd rank them:
Mayer Anthony Teel Campbell Montgomery Yorke Bleis Perales Cespedes Arias
I think Campbell is mashing so much and he has enough of a ceiling I'd put him 4th and leave Montgomery's potential 5th.
I'll put Yorke and his proximity to the majors and likelihood to be starting 2b 6th and then I'll rank the rest by ceiling/experience so far.
I think Campbell is approaching the Big 3 and if Montgomery is what a lot of us think he can be he'll make it a big handful, until the others start matriculating to the majors.
YMMV

Just from reading the collection of scouting reports I was a little lower on Montgomery than the consensus, although I was still really happy a top ten guy fell to the Sox.
But after reading a little more closely, I think a lot of that "lacking" hit tool is from the right side. If you just looked at the left he would have really impressive contact & EV combinations. But, the talent still comes through on the right side with his bat speed, just needs more refining.
Anyways, I've left more excited than I was on Sunday. Caveat being I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Will be interested to see what Callis says assuming he's on the next pod...

It’s almost like if consensus top picks fall to you, the farm system gets better. This kids profile looks great. Get him to focus on hitting lefty and he probably becomes no worse than your 3rd prospect by next July. Assuming that Teel and Mayer make the jump next year.
