They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think the Astros are any better than their record says they are. They might even be worse. They're 14th in the majors in positional WAR and 20th in pitching WAR.
But they started off slow and have been better recently, you say? Well since June 1st they're 15th and 13th respectively. Since July 1st they're 26th and 11th.
(Strange mystery though: they somehow have a +44 run differential despite the mediocre offense and pitching and despite being the least clutch team in the majors.)
- Bonus weird statistical discovery: the Red Sox have a team wRC+ of 132 since July 1st, second best in the majors. That's the same wRC+ as Wade Boggs, Tony Gwynn, and Rod Carew had for their careers. Third best in the majors have been... the Location Undefined A's, at 126.

AL West is garbage? Edit: They're 21-18 against the West. Maybe not.

Feels like James Paxton has quickly become a very important piece of this roster.

Forecast tonight is for strong wind from the south, i.e out to left, and then rain arriving after 9pm. Could make this game interesting/stupid.

Astros are 10-19 in 1-run games, and only the Reds and White Sox have fewer 1-run victories. No idea what to make of them.

“Dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same” I’m all for this, but whose roster spot would he take? Feel like you gotta keep Coop up w/ the club.

Does Booser need to go back after this or is having a baby a loophole to avoiding the “must wait X number of days to come up after being optioned”?

It would honestly make sense when you consider that Pivetta has arm fatigue and Houck and Crawford have looked absolutely gassed lately. I guess it comes down to whether or not the org thinks he’d do a better job eating innings than someone like Dick Fitts

Dick Fitts and Dick Mountain in the same rotation might cause Red Sox twitter to explode.

Also give me Rich Hill or give me death! That’s amazing. I’ve been operating under the assumption that it’s no guarantee Story will be fully ready for ST 2025. Shoulders and labrums are no joke.

Chances for a rainout tonight? Just looked at the Boston forecast for this evening and it looks bleak.

When scouts who spoke to Rob Bradford said Rich Hill looked “impressive”, did they mean impressive just in a general baseball sense, or “impressive for a 44 year old who hasn’t played all year and is jumping in”. Because those are two distinct things
