I'm intrigued by Cavan Biggio and Cal Quantrill as well as Garrett Williams. Here's hoping they can draft one more high level prospect.

Biggio and Quantrill are supposedly going to college. Not sure if they have a number at this point, but it's likely higher than the Sox can go.

I think the chances that we're able to sign a guy with an asking bonus of > 1 mill are slim......but it doesn't hurt to take one of those guys because if we're unable to sign Denney for any reason, the savings we came up with elsewhere in the draft to put towards his bonus, could conceivably be used to sign a bigger guy past round 10 today (I realize that we do lose the ~700,00 for the 3rd round slot, but the other 500k-700k that we probably saved elsewhere for him is opened up).
So yea, I'm expecting a top guy or two with slim chances of actually signing them and then maybe a number of guys who are more likely to sign for 100k or less.

I'd like to see the sox sign someone they think they have the best chance to sign with their next pick. Hopefully they can sign that player + Denney. It seems to me they are going to go with a lot of hard sign guys here, but I'm sure they have a decent idea of who they have a better chance of signing.

Drafting an overslot guy on the third day can be helpful even if you very much doubt you'll be able to sign them just in terms of being able to play one overslot guy off another and maximize your leverage. After round 10, almost all the guys you're looking at are super fringy anyways (look at some old drafts, for instance, and notice that almost noone in rounds 10-50 (who weren't overslot guys) even make it to AAA), so it's no big loss if you draft a guy and he doesn't sign.

I think it's worth noting that almost all of the 11th round picks last year, whose signing info I had access to, signed for $100kto $150k. There might have been a couple of guys who signed for more than that, but I don't recall any.

Any particular reason why AJ Vanegas and Aaron Brown are still on the board? Are they going back for their senior year?

I'm curious who you would've taken instead? Personally I liked the pick considering Frazier was gone. I was very Happy Moran was gone.

Another solid reason to select a talented HS prospect with the first pick is if the team can't quite meet his salary demands then at least no other team will get that player because he'll move onto college. Obviously you only take the player that you believe you have the money to sign but if it doesn't work out.

What an a-hole coach he had making him sac bunt after 2 homers just to see how he would react. The kid was 13 or 14 at the time, let him play the game and have some fun. Lol, I know the article has lots of great stuff in there but i felt a need to vent about that stupid ass coach.

Asuaje played in the Cape League. Boston seems to draft players they have seen play in the wood bat Cape Cod league. They scout it heavily.

Fine picks based on talent alone, but keep in mind you're spending more money at those top two spots than we likely will (who knows though, maybe Wilson signs for slot), limiting what you would be able to do beyond rounds 3.

I guess we won't be seeing any tough sign picks for the Sox from the way they started this day.
