6 games left against the Jays so a 6 game sweep by Toronto would be lovely.

if Buchholz pitches SUN (instead of normal rest on SAT), he misses the Yanks. 2 days off around this weekend. 16-man staff gets rusty. They have another 2-day off week of the 23rd. Not much work for the bullpen and the few from Pawsox joining later. Please trade Cook. For his own benefit. And the Sox's benefit.

It's the only race that matters - the battle for a top 11 draft spot (as of 9/7am):
#6 MIA -- (wins tiebreaker with any teams other than SEA/SD/KC based on 2011 record) #7 KC 0.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with any other team other than SEA (tied with SD) based on 2011 record) #8 TOR 1.0 GB #9 PIT (compensation pick due to failure to sign Mark Appel) #10 BOS 2.0 GB #11 SD 3.0 GB (wins tiebreaker with any team other than SEA (tied with KC) based on 2011 record) #12 NYM 4.5 GB #13 PHI 5.5 GB (loses tiebreaker with any team based on 2011 record) #14 SEA 6.0 GB (wins tiebreaker with any team based on 2011 record) #15 MIL 6.5 GB (loses tiebreaker with any team other than PHI based on 2011 record) #16 ARI 7.0 GB
Note: the top 11 draft picks are protected and cannot be lost.
With its 2-1 loss to SEA to end the road trip, Boston has moved into the #10 spot but is only 2.5 games out of the #6 spot. It should be noted that Boston loses the tiebreaker with any teams other than PHI and MIL.
Head-to-head matchups this week:
TOR @ BOS (Fri-Sun) ARI @ SD (Fri-Sun) MIA @ PHI (Mon-Wed) SEA @ TOR (Tues-Thurs)

Tim Britton @tbritton_Projo Lackey will throw live BP tomorrow, and Valentine suggested a major-league appearance this season isn't out of the question.

It's the only race that matters - the battle for a top 11 draft spot (as of 9/8am):
#6 MIA -- (wins tiebreaker with any teams other than SD/KC based on 2011 record) #7 KC 0.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with any other team (tied with SD) based on 2011 record) #8 TOR 1.0 GB #9 PIT (compensation pick due to failure to sign Mark Appel) #10 BOS 1.0 GB #11 SD 3.0 GB (wins tiebreaker with any team (tied with KC) based on 2011 record) #12 NYM 3.5 GB
Note: the top 11 draft picks are protected and cannot be lost.
With its loss to TOR and wins by MIA, KC and TOR, Boston has moved into a virtual tie with TOR and is only one game behind the #6 spot. It should be noted that Boston loses the tiebreaker with any teams, which keeps BOS in the #10 spot for now.

I vote we add Cleveland to the mix here...Let's aim high, only 3.5 games behind them I believe.

Question about Bard. His problem seems arm angle to me. I know it's simplistic. But, he used to have an easy over the top motion where he didn't even appear to exert himself. He flings the ball from about an 80-90 degree slot like a frisbee and it sails outside. He then over-compensates and short arms the ball leaving it high and inside. He drilled Encarnacion in his last start. And, almost beaned him twice last night doing that. Comes over the top with a slider and finishes him off. I never pitched and didn't stay at the Holiday Inn. But, that's the way I see it.
Cleveland's in play. If we can't beat Seattle or Toronto. Who are we gonna beat? A's and Angels swept us. Two teams battling for playoff spots. NYY, Baltimore and TB are going to murder us in those 18 games. I doubt if we go 6-12 in those.

Buchholz gets TOR twice. Dumb. The old rivalry is dead, not even genius Bobby V. can bring it back. Can we pry Grady Little away from whatever he is doing to be the interim manager?

Well, at least Dice-K got the memo. Lose!! No more Beckett or Dice-K next year. Now, if we can only convince the Dodgers a return to LA would do Lackey wonders. We'd be stylin.
And, please. Don't say Jacoby throws like a girl. That would be an insult to any ladies out there. You gals surely have a better arm than him.

Its shame that Ciriaco is finally coming back to earth, his average has dropped to a paltry .303, down from a peak of like .361 a few weeks ago

He's just getting into the spirit of this protected pick thing. If we're going to make the best out of our situation, we're going to do it as a team.

He's just getting into the spirit of this protected pick thing. If we're going to make the best out of our situation, we're going to do it as a team. This is true. Podsednik still hasn't gotten the memo. On an unrelated note, Gameday described a play in the fifth inning as "Iglesias pops into unassisted double play, first baseman Lind. Podsednik doubled off 1st." I'm having trouble visualizing this happening. Could someone who was watching it elaborate on what actually happened?

Everyone lost on Sat. except TOR (who beat BOS, of course), and BOS has moved into the #8 spot, ahead of PIT's comp. pick. It should be noted that Boston loses the tiebreaker with any teams.

You can tell things are bad for the home towne team when the game thread has no postings while the game is in progress -- and the last previous post had nothing to do with the current series. The Sox are in trouble again, but they may still be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I was going to say you know something wrong when the series thread is just one page but you kind of beat me to it. The first game of the Patriots season I'm sure helped though. I was nervous when that ball first left the bat on that Ross foul ball.
