here's hoping sharwin Shawaryn doesn't end up like Anthony Ranaudo if we end up fast tracking him I'm confused. What's the implication? That Ranaudo was rushed? I don't think I'd agree if that's what you're getting at. Botched name.

This game is baseball's worst. The pace is criminal.

His command has improved so much, which is kinda weird and unexpected.

At the risk of jinxing this, Kimbrel has been money this season.

I swear, I just saw Robbie Ross tossing the ball with Mookie in RF warming up but he was throwing right handed. His hair is pretty distinct so I'm not sure who else it was. That's the Red Sox bullpen catcher who does have the same hair as Ross. Edit:

Looks like Mookie is out- but man that is a situation where they could've tagged two runners out at the plate in the span of a second... don't think I've ever seen that before.

Hanley is also out with the flu which gives us this monstrosity:
Red Sox at DET: Holt DH, Pedroia 2B, Benintendi LF, Moreland 1B, Young RF, Bradley Jr. CF, Leon C, Sandoval 3B, Hernandez SS, Wright RHP

Awesome win but I'm praying for a rainout tomorrow. This bullpen is in shambles and they're about to lose another bullpen guy. Matt Barnes is headed to the bereavement list after a death in the family. Turns out that Robbie Ross Jr. wasn't at the ballpark too yesterday due to flu like symptoms too. My guess is that Noe Ramirez will be called up while Barnes is out until he or Pomeranz comes back. Marco Hernandez has been called up to take Barnes' place. And what are you talking about anyway? Taylor and Abad haven't pitched at all this season and Scott and Hembree only pitched a combined inning yesterday...

Mentioned Mata and his advanced approach despite being 17 and talked about Joan Martinez hitting 99 out of the pen. So nothing about new names being linked to the Sox for the July 2nd signing period? Not like we're allowed to overspend and get away with it like before. This sux! That was not what Badler's article was about. It's a review of the previous international signing period.

Tim Britton @timbritton 4 min. Red Sox reassign Kyle Kendrick to minor-league camp. So Pomeranz is ready to go for the rotation.

Also with all the shoulder problems that Hanley is having, I'd feel like the Sox would be best served by having a guy like Selsky over the roster rather than Chris Young. The lack of versatility is going to kill the Sox from Young's side of things and Moreland might have to see at bats versus LHP because of it. Plus, if the Sox drop Young after spring training, they only owe him the first 30 days of his pro rated contract, I think. Or maybe they'd be on the hook for the full contract. I'm not sure how that rule works. If they could save money by dropping Young, they could save more money against the threshold this year and maybe promote Rusney if they need to. Did you really think this through?

It is impossible to hit homeruns in Salem. The 2 homeruns didn't alarm me last year. Excited to see what Longhi can do this year. I once saw Che-Hsuan Lin hit a homer at Salem. Go figure.

The #WhiteSox have requested waivers on infielder Brett Lawrie for the purpose of granting his unconditional release.
Upgrade over Rutledge?

I know this is a huge comparison, but would Chris Davis be a fair comp if he were to reach his ceiling? Massive power, below average hit tool and speed. Then again, I'm not a scout (for good reason,) so I'm probably way off on thinking this. He could be what we hoped Will Middlebrooks would be.

I know BAs draft/college coverage and minor league coverage are from different groups. But it's hard for me to put together how they could put Shaun Anderson at #151 overall in their 2016 pre-draft rankings and then not include him in the Top 31 of a system that has some pretty serious depth issues. He faced 21 batters! And yeah, it went basically as poorly as it possibly could have ... but 21 batters! I know BAs draft/college coverage and minor league coverage are from different groups. He faced 21 batters! And yeah, it went basically as poorly as it possibly could have ... but 21 batters! Reports were that his stuff was down too. We asked Alex about this on the podcast, I think? That said, I'm personally inclined to give him a mulligan. Games pitched, IP at Florida by year: 2014: 14, 17.2 2015: 16, 22.0 2016: 33, 43.0 So he doubled his work over the same time period (accounting for the fact that he pitched on the Cape in 2015, throwing another 22 innings, but the innings output was over a months-longer period). No, it's not a ton of innings, but it's getting up and down a lot more. I'm sure he probably was gassed a bit. He's someone I want to get eyes on in ST, for sure. This is why I love this forum.

I missed a couple pages on this thread so my apologies for repeating a conversation, but in response to a couple posts on page 1.... If Joe Kelley is anything but a bullpen arm, I will be extremely disappointed. He's a lousy starter who at best can give you some starts because you need him, but he has the potential to be a great bullpen piece. This is where the starter WAR vs the bullpen WAR crap can really get out of whack. Shutdown bullpens are vastly underrated by advanced statistics and this bullpen not only needs Kelley they need him to be really good or they are in trouble. Kelley is also a mental midget and I wouldn't want to mess with him by jerking him from role to role. Tell him he's a bullpen arm and let him concentrate and be that. Remember when Owens was at worst a 4/5 starter and that's incredibly valuable so they shouldn't deal him? Well... it's too bad they didn't cash that chip in when they could have.. Farrell yesterday: "But right now he's a one to two inning reliever for us". m.mlb.com/bos/video/topic/8067842/v1224769483/kelly-knows-his-role-as-key-part-of-pen/?c_id=bos

The Red Sox have signed Mitchell Osnowitz, a guy who only started pitching after college by mistake at a Braves tryout camp. I found out he has his own blog that gives some great insight in the hard work guys put in to get their chance. From January 1st: The entire entry is fun to read. Glad he's getting another chance with us. maosnowitz.wordpress.com/2017/01/01/hello-friends-where-ive-been/
