Would you add too many future dollars to sign GH and make a similar offer as PG for DeAndre Jordan?

Are the Red Sox far enough under to make a move now and still have flexibility for the season?

Either the reported asking price to the Marlins was not accurate or the Marlins were asking the Red Sox to cover the large portion of the contract.

The thought has been that the primary way to shred payroll for in season moves is to trade a starting pitcher. What about trading Chris Young? There is generally a sentiment that you will need at least 7 starting pitchers to get through the year. The $6.5 million shaved by trading Young could get that flexibility as well. You could find an outfielder to plug in for less.

From a talent evaluation, DD seemed to make 2 major decisions: 1) trade Moncada over one of the outfielders and 2) trade Kopech over EROD. It will be interesting to see if he right on both accounts.

Could anyone please post where the Red Sox payroll is currently? I would also be interested over the next three years.

These sound like some exciting changes. I would also hope that there will be fewer political comments either in comments or filter from Twitter.

Should the Red Sox target (and possibly overpay) the player that the team feels best replaces Ortiz or should the Red Sox wait to get replacement with the best value?

Could anyone see Terry Ryan coming and playing the Jerry Dipoto role from last year. Do a detailed assessment of the organization and stay if he does not get another position?

Living in South Florida, this is devastating news for the community. Thoughts and prayers to his family. My sympathies to the Marlins organization.

One aspect that I do not understand is why the Player's Association is not vocally condemning Preller. With incomplete medical information, a player may receive improper medical care include a team physician prescribing medication that have a contraindication with something a player is already taking (but not revealed to team).

I have not seen Papelbon pitch this year. Has anyone seen Papelbon pitch enough this year to know if he is pitching well enough to help the Red Sox.

This is an interesting article from ESPN ranking managers: www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/17235632/which-mlb-skippers-do-well-no-1Farrell ranks 20th being criticized for leaving in his starting pitchers too long but given some credit for developing young hitters. Several managers who have their their teams in playoff contention are below him. The article remains on the fence about him. Who would be available and could succeed in Boston if you fire Farrell? I like Gabe Kapler, but don't know how he would fit in Boston.

Package feels light. If Milwaukee is being reasonable, I wonder the chances of acquiring a reliever from them.

Buchholtz is not done, but he needs a fresh start in a more pitcher friendly park. The Dodgers may be an option to trade an outfielder at the Deadline or in August if they acquire an impact outfielder as expected.

The Red Sox seem to have taken on relatively little in the trades. Does anyone have a current breakdown of the Red Sox salary breakdown and how close the team is to paying the luxury tax?
