Chris Hatfield ? Chris Hatfield 6s Red Sox report Wendelken, Montas, Rondon to CWS Chris Hatfield ? Chris Hatfield 6s Red Sox report Wendelken, Montas, Rondon to CWS Chris Hatfield ? Chris Hatfield 6s Red Sox report Wendelken, Montas, Rondon to CWS Montas is the only one who I think can be called a legit prospect. Cherington stole Peavy. If you read the fan graphs Peavy vs Garza article and see what Boston and Texas gave up...no contest. Just amazing work

Wow thank God for bio genesis . This is better than getting Garza. I can't believe our package was better than the others? Please bring up Xander, JBJ and WMB. I feel for Workman. I mean no one is gonna crack the rotation next year. No kids. There stuck with Dempster , they have Peavy now. Felix, Lester and Buch. So that's that. No kids need apply! You forgot Lackey, that is 6 starters for next year (which we all know is rarely a problem), just sayin.

So I'll be the first and seemingly only person on this forum to not like this move. It does make me wonder if they think buch will be back at all. Makes more sense if he won't be. Should have just thrown 5 mil more at peavy in offseason. Here's to hoping I continue my always wrong streak. Peavy is not a free agent this offseason like you seem to imply. He's got $14.5m guaranteed in 2014. He meant lat year when peavy was a free agent

If it's Wendelken, Montas, Rondon, and Iglesias for Peavy, I'd say the Red Sox got a steal. I will miss Iglesias' defensive wizardry, but Peavy is a chronically underrated pitcher who slots 3rd or 4th in a playoff rotation (depending on what you think of Lester and Doubront). Compare to what the Rangers gave up for Garza, who is a comparable arm at best and a two-month rental.

So Clay Peavy Lackey Lester What happens to Doubrton and Dempster? Doubront has been the much better pitcher, and Dempster has bullpen experience. But something tells me they would send Doubront to the pen which would kill me because putting a 25 year old in the pen while the 36 year old gets lit up in the rotation just seems so dumb to me.

Anything on Wendelken's abilities? I'm looking on the player page and scouting report and not getting many details about what we gave up in him, just curious? At low levels his production seems solid, but is it just over-matching poor competition and he won't have the stuff to stick at higher levels?

I hope this doesn't mean that the Sox don't think Clay is going to be able to return this season.

I don't think there is much to gripe about this deal.
Also it will spare of reading Lee for Bogaerts anymore.

I would LOVE this deal if the Red Sox were actually getting a true #2, borderline #1 like an earlier commenter suggested.
However, what we're actually getting is a pitcher with a swstr% that is nearly a percentage point below the MLB average, an abysmal HR/FB, and good control. In other words, John Lackey with fewer strikeouts. To me, Iglesias should bring back more value than that.

If all healthy the Sox will have a nice depth at SP for the first time in a while going into next season. IF one of the prospects is ready come spring training then you can move Dempster in the off season. Heck the team could probably trade Peavy in the off season and get as much back or more for him. Peavy and a De La Cruz to the Pirates for Polanco! Ha Ha can't help it.
Have to wonder what Law has to say about it. Might make those ESPN commenters think twice.

Any thoughts on what will happen next season when we have six starting pitchers? Dempster or Doubront to the pen? If its Dempster I love this trade. If its Dubront that pisses me off, he has worked his tail off to be in this rotation and has a sub 4 ERA as a lefty.

I understand this trade from Detroit. This trade fills a huge need for them, and improves that terrible defense.
The white sox really did not get much for Peavy.

As somebody pointed out - in a playoff series Doubront would most likely be bumped out of the rotation into the pen? At this point how much better is Peavy than Doubront and is the upgrade worth Iglesias?
The counterpoints I can think of that is if Buchholz doesn't come back, then Peavy is a definite upgrade to Dempster and having Peavy around while Buchholz isn't keeps the Red Sox deeper in quality pitching and protects them in case of another injury (Workman would be reinserted into the rotation if that happens) - I guess the upshot of this is that having Peavy around increases the Sox' odds of staying out of that 1 game Wild Card playoff and winning the division.

Seems like a nice trade. Who plays 3B for this team now though? I don't feel like the Sox can depend on either Snyder or Middlebrooks unfortunately.

Worst case is after the 2014 season Peavy should get a qualifying offer and get us a Supplemental 1st rounder back right?

Want to see the rest of the details of the trade. Right now I would argue if you take Chicago out of the trade the sox got ripped off. (iggy for of prospect and Villarreal) That's not how you look at a 3-team trade. And why is that? They basically gave us garcia and villarreal, and we flipped Garcia. Now I know we have no interest in Garcia, and white sox might value him more, but from a trade value perspective I think Detroit got more value. I would rather of went drew + cash and they could keep villarreal
