So one pleasant surprise in the past month or so has been the performance of Drake Britton with the big club. So far in relief he's pitched 9 innings without giving up an earned run, while giving up only 6 hits, 1 walk and striking out 7 in the process. Are you guys buying this? Is he primed to succeed in this new relief role? I have to say I like what I've seen from him so far both in terms of stuff and composure on the mound.
Thoughts?

I am not sure that's his role long term. I hope could still be a number 3/4 starter.

Surprised by his command at this point. Never felt he would have even average command and control, Britton may be in the best place for him. It always seemed that his control of the stroke zone could come and go often within a game. Simplifying things for him and letting him just cut loose and concentrate on just his slider and fastball may be the best thing. May sound strange, but I see a Bard who throws left-handed.

Is his court case for his DUI incident after the season? I really hope he doesn't have to spend any time in jail or get suspended because of it...

I might be way off but I worry about Lester here and beyond Doubront I would like a young lefthander in the rotation....Bluechip's comments are my thoughts if we have a 3/4 in Britton, that will be a good outcome. Owens will need 2 years and I don't think we'll ever see Morales healthy enough for a starter role again-it should be his role in the pen.....freeing up Britton for a shot at the rotation.
As a long time sox fan I have to say I've always dreamed of having a deep pitching rotation with more guns coming and that's now here (my nightmares of Reggie Cleveland, Rick Wise and Mike Paxton can finally rest)

Detroit's rotation is all right-handed and they have the best rotation in all of baseball by ERA. Keep him in the bullpen where he could be special. I also think it speaks volumes about the organization's view of him that Workman, who they want in their bullpen, came in after Wright and not Britton.

I wonder if that had anything to do with Workman being more stretched out, having been starting all year, as opposed to Britton who has been a reliever with the big club.
