Rijo batting second against more advanced pitching. I'm intrigued by what he will do against more advanced pitching.

That's a sick line for a middle infielder who's young for his league. You know, that's remarkably similar to Dustin Pedrioa's A+ line at very close to the same age: .336/.417/.523. I think it was that line that caused PECOTA to spit out the Gary Sheffield comp for Dustin.

It's been a blast following him this year. Nice observation on the Pedroia comp. Obviously, Mookie would have to have best-case development from here on out to achieve that, but it is amazing how similar those lines are.

Yeah, sure ... Pedroia put up similar line the next year at AA. Mookie has a first half in AA like that, then we can really talk.
But, this also goes to Callis's point on his podcast with Speier: in 2004, there were fewer top-end prospects to compete with Pedroia for attention of followers of the Sox system (plus Pedroia was the first player the Sox drafted that year and a high-profile college player, so naturally people focused on him).

All true but on the other hand Dustin didn't make the Top 100, Mookie has about 75% more ABs and Dustin was a slightly below average defensive ss and had no stolen bases. Agree about the AA part, that's the big test. But saying that, let's not kid ourselves too much, there's lot's of room for hope.

With Lowell's loss, their tragic number for the division is 1. In terms of the wild card, they would win the tiebreaker, Lowell needs to win one more game than Jamestown (1-0 or 2-1); otherwise, their season will be over on Wednesday.

Mookie and the K: salemsox.mlblogs.com/2013/09/02/the-last-game-before-the-first-big-game/"Unbelievably, Betts has only struck out once in his last 62 plate appearances in his last 15 games. In this stretch since July 18, he’s hitting .463 (25-for-54) with eight walks and one strikeout. He has avoided striking out in each of his last nine games, his longest streak of the season. With Greenville, he once went eight straight games without striking out and twice more went seven consecutive games without a K" And that was before his 2-4 with no K in his last game, so he struck out once in his last 66 PA of the season.
