Can someone explain to me why this guy gets no love. He has had two great seasons at greenville and salem. He racks up innings, but I feel like he gets no attention. He is currently ranked #51, is there a reason he is so low, or is it just a bad rank?

He is currently ranked #51, is there a reason he is so low, or is it just a bad rank? Because chicks dig the long ball. Couch has four pitches that he can throw for strikes - a sinking fastball which sits 89-91 mph and touches 93, a low 80s change-up and a 75-77 curve. That repertoire doesn't jump out at scouts. Also, Couch did show declines in K/9 and K/BB rates in moving up to Salem. I currently project Couch to be in Portland's 2013 starting rotation. In order for Couch to move up the rankings, he will need to improve his ratios (specifically, sharpen his control) while making the difficult jump from Salem to Portland. I have not done my personal year-end rankings, but my guess is that Couch wouldn't be too much higher than #51 - maybe somewhere in the low-to-mid 40s. The system is very deep.

I had Couch ranked #37 coming into the season and will certainly have him higher next spring. He and Chris Hernandez have consistently been the most under rankerd players here IMO.

Guys with good command but mediocre stuff can put up very good numbers in the low minors just by pounding the strike zone, but they'll be challenged at higher levels. If he continues to put up similar numbers in AA and above, I imagine he'll rise in the rankings, but AA really is the big test for pitchers with that profile.

Agreed on all fronts. Couch has to earn it at every level, which isn't to say he hasn't so far. He's a good organizational arm, but in terms of ceiling and projectability (which is what rankings are based off), there's not much more there than meets the eye.

I'm glad to see my main man Couchy getting some love, I've been in the bandwagon for quite some time and was starting to get lonely.

I love him too an had him ranked as high as 36th before the season started. Hes slid a little for me. I still like him tho. He will remain in the rotation untill he reaches the Majors were I see him as a MRP. I dont think he has the stuff to start but I do believe with better command and little more on his FB an being able to improve his offspeed pitches a little he could be a ok bottom of the rotation SP.
I agree about Chris hernandez I was talking about this the other day he is very underrated but nothing special. He looks like he will be a good SU guy down the road an I think he could start with a couple more improvements. He imo is one of those guys who have the capability to just get outs, flashy or not.
