Is there something significant about being up for at least the last 5 days of the year for guys on the 40-man?

I don't know if you still do, but you used to be able to get MLB Players Association benefits for at least one day of "active" service.

Is there something significant about being up for at least the last 5 days of the year for guys on the 40-man? Back in the day? Teams used to call up nearly everyone on the 40 man in September. It's a good idea to call up the young kids anyway. Give them clubhouse exposure for if/when they do make the bigs.. Just think about it a little. Boston isn't one of the teams hurting for cash. 100 bucks a day meal money (or whatever it is now) and 5 days pro rated salary for those kids, watching their heroes winning a DC? It's priceless experience. Think man.

Meh, probably doesn't mean anything. As Jon Boswell with the Spinners pointed out to me on Twitter, the BA ML transactions had pretty much every 40-man guy getting "recalled" at some point. It's probably something procedural maybe? It's not like the guys get service time, I don't think, so maybe it's just to throw them a few extra bucks? I dunno.
