There's pretty extensive 40-man discussion on the Rule 5 thread, which is what I was referring to.

my post was meant to imply that he is capable of playing the 3 OF positions only and nothing more. His value to the team for what he is capable of. Right, we get that you're saying that, but the problem is that he's not capable of playing all three outfield positions at the MLB level. When everyone was healthy in Pawtucket, he played left field. When there was a hole in center because neither of Bradley or Baier were available due to injury or call-up, they played the likes of Justin Henry and Ronald Bermudez in center field over Hazelbaker. No chance he gets protected. None.

Chris, I hadn't noticed that before (that JHaze wasn't really a CF). Thanks for the info cause it really colors my perspective differently, especially re: 40-man room.
I'll also note that this is a really interesting page 2 of a thread about a knuckleball pitcher.

Wright is in an interesting situation for 2014. I think he's viewed as less of a prospect than his rotation mates in Pawtucket, but he's probably the most likely to see sustained success in MLB next season. Looking further ahead, Webster is likely a main feature in the 2015 rotation, so he gets the first nod in 2014. Again though, like this season he's going to have some really bad outings possibly for several starts in a row. Whereas I think Wright will have his stinkers but probably not week after week. Also, has Lester earned an extension? If he has then how does that effect Wright's statuswith the Sox?

Before the season began I predicted that Wright would be in the rotation in 2014, which was at least 51% wishful thinking on my part. That said, I think that he could be a very valuable long man/ spot starter, similar a role that Wakefield filled for a few seasons. I think there are too many other guys with higher upside that will get opportunities in the rotation ahead of him, and by no means do I want those guys to fail so that Wright can have a spot. The Red Sox have a really nice problem with all their depth, and some of those guys are going to get traded and some are going to change roles. Wright probably will not, if only because the Red Sox seem to be much less afraid of a knuckler than the next team, and Toronto probably doesn't want two of them.
