Buchholz and Lester vs TOR in exhibition games. Yeah, don't try to match them up against TB.
Pawsox 4 days off until AAA vs PCL game on 18th (in Durham NC). Anybody on that roster to MLB temporarily? Or Permanently? Probably not. See ya on the 19th.

Ciriaco, our .254 SEPT OPS guy leading off ... because there is a lefty on the mound. BV opts not to put a RH between Nava and Loney. With 6 RH in the lineup. Is there anything to look forward to? Stewart starting pitcher next weekend vs. O's?

Good god, now I remember why I used to refuse to watch Dice-k pitch. Something else has to be on TV

Is this Gomez guy worth keeping around next year? He appears to be a hitter.

Yes. Make him spend the next 6 months doing intensive first base drills with JT Snow.
Can't afford to win these games.

What the heck was in the air last night? I covered a hs football game that ended up 49-33. Expected to be a defensive struggle. And, the Sox score 8 runs. WTF?? I'll write it off as a fluke. We should get back to our hitless wonder days today.

Gomez really should be given a chance to start next year. In his almost 900 AAA at-bats, hes hit over .300. Hes proven that he can hit for contact and with power. Does it really matter that hes 28? Let the man play!

It's the only race that matters - the battle for a top 11 draft spot (as of 9/15am):
#6 MIA -- (wins tiebreaker with any teams other than SD/KC based on 2011 record) #7 BOS 1.0 GB #8 KC 1.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with any other team (tied with SD) based on 2011 record) #9 PIT (compensation pick due to failure to sign Mark Appel) #10 TOR 2.0 GB #11 NYM 2.5 GB (wins tiebreaker with TOR) #12 SEA 5.0 GB (wins tiebreaker with SD) #13 SD 5.0 GB
Note: the top 11 draft picks are protected and cannot be lost.
It should be noted that BOS loses the tiebreaker with any team.

Gomez might have a chance to stick in the majors, but he is not a full-time player particularly given how brutal he is defensively. If Ortiz is re-signed, I don't see why the team would need two DHs.

We're starting to get a feel for how good Bailey is and why the Sox traded for him. We'll see what the off-season brings, but they do have a few assets to build with. How far it takes them next year is an open question but there's a bit of talent in that pen.

Bailey is very good, it just sucks that he wasn't able to contribute this season when games actually mattered. Having him all season would have allowed Aceves to start, potentially solving some issues.
If Bard can get back to anything the bullpen has the potential to be very good next year, relieving some of the starting pitching issues. Tazawa and Bailey could be a dominant 8/9 inning combination. Chances are that Reddick won't duplicate this season again, and the Redsox come out on top of that deal

Don't forget that Miles Head and Alcantara were also in that deal going to the A's.
I agree that Bailey looks good and Tazawa has also looked very good. I would be surprised if Aceves is brought back as he is almost as bad for the team as Bobby V.

I haven't figured out how to quote someone. What I got looked intimidating! I like this new site, but it could use a little sprucing up. In any case, Gomez is 28, which is the peak age for major league players. I think the Sox should give him a shot at 1B. I don't think they are going to get any impact player in the off season for that position.

It's amazing that the worst September roster in the history of MLB (according to their manager) has won two in a row.

These wins are really annoying. Minimal damage yesterday, since of the other teams 6-13 only the Mets lost (plus Toronto of course.) One more day to get through playing a team equally as disinterested as us; then we finish against the desperate teams. If we can't find a way to get it done in the last 2 1/2 weks, well then, people will simply have to face the fact that we just weren't bad enough. Those wins in April hurt just as much as the ones in September.
