Don't like to make political response, but this statement about unions are not important is simply wrong. Maybe there are not as vital for countless reasons but they are important, which is why capital is trying to knock them off ( rather successful). Sorry for the rant, but can't stand this crap.

add me to the list of those who don't want people talking in this forum about whether unions--outside of baseball-- are a good thing.

Haha ... SoxProspectsLaborForum.com is born.
Getting back to baseball ... in the end, it's probably about evenly matched between positives and negatives that (a healthy) Dempster isn't there, with a slight lean to the negative for me. He was real veteran depth that they won't have now, and the room he frees up isn't necessarily as valuable now as it could've been earlier in the off-season. Sure, maybe it allows the Sox to trade for someone like Cliff Lee in June, but that's really, really speculative, obviously. And, leaving money aside, I don't think Dempster would've blocked any of the young guys in a way that would hurt their development. Pitching in AAA is appropriate for all of them; it's not like any of them have dominated the IL (yet).
But, you know, not a huge deal ... it's great to have a team that can lose a guy like Dempster and have it genuinely debatable whether it's a good or bad thing.

The fact of the matter is Dempster has sited real physical issues as a big problem for him, so expecting him to be effective was unrealistic. Therefor the act of him stepping away is a HUGE win for the Res Sox. The fact he's hurt may be a negative, but it doesn't appear that a healthy Dempster was an option so I look at this as a win for the Sox.

I think if the Sox traded Dempster and $7 million for some guy like Brandon Jacobs, there would be less debate than there is now.
