Gomes batting leadoff against the lefty is smart. Thumbs up to Farrell.

Longtime lurker, new poster, so I apologize if this is the wrong place for this, but I found it pretty hilarious. From the KLaw chat today (http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/50332/mlb-insider-keith-law):

I think we need Eric to do an analysis on whether this is the result of some special variable that indicates a true change in the baseline posting activity or not.

I think we need Eric to do an analysis on whether this is the result of some special variable that indicates a true change in the baseline posting activity or not. It appears there is a strong correlation between posting frequency and when baseball is in season, with an R-squared value of .937. This is akin to rolling a 6-sided die and it landing with one of the sides facing up.

We're changing the topic here, which was presence or absence of sarcasm. Dick Cramer did the definitive study years ago that essentially showed that sarcasm on message boards was illusory. There is no post-to-post correlation of sarcastic content, regardless of how it's measured. BP later did a study that showed that 10% of sarcasm was predictive, but some critics thought that they were confusing sarcasm with snark, which for some unknown reason they seemed able to detect better than others. Defenders vehemently denied that there was a difference between the two, and parties on both sides were either sarcastic or snarky in the subsequent debate.

Who would have had 3?

Sooooooo tempted to leave a snarky comment here. Which would be sarcastic.

How long is it going to take for people to realize that speed is not one of JBJ's "tools."

Doubront looks good. Locating well, working in all his pitches, getting ground balls.
Everyone thinks Bradley is a speedster because he's so smooth out there in center field. But he does that with elite instincts, and he has average raw speed at best.

...of course, he immediately starts looking worse. Has left a bunch of pitches up in this inning.

Hopefully, Nieves told him no more fastballs in the middle of the plate.
