Go to Cafardo's main twitter page and click "tweets and replies." It is still there.

I'm guessing it doesn't work with tapatalk. On full web browser, you post a twitter link and the whole tweet embeds. Nick Cafardo @nickcafardo @jonmorosi reported there are multiple teams making an offer to James Shields, but the Red Sox aren't one of them per major league source.

Badler on Cecchini in his chat today:
Race Bannon (North Carolina): Hi Ben - Garin Cecchini is quite the OBA but is now blocked in Boston's infield and outfield. How is he viewed by other teams, trade chip-wise? Thanks - I'll hang up and listen.
Ben Badler: He killed a lot of his trade value last year, and I say that as someone who was as high on Cecchini as anyone. His game has to be about staying within a good hitting approach, using the whole field, hitting line drives and working the count, and he just got away from that for most of last year. His third base defense gets knocked more than it should, but I know some teams see him as more of a corner OF, and for a guy who never is going to have big power and coming off a mediocre year in Triple-A, he's more of an add-on in a deal than a primary return.

@chriscotillo Agent @toconnellsports announces client Wade Miley has agreed to a 3-year, $19.25M deal with #RedSox. Covers all three arbitration years.
So does this mean Ben will now trade him for Wily Mo Pena?

Michael Silverman ?@mikesilvermanbb 2 min. Cherington: "I'd be surprised" if #RedSox make any more significant additions before spring training. Maybe some non-roster invites.

If we really need a starter we can get one at the deadline. If we're out of it by then, then Zimmermann/Hamels probably wasn't going to make up much ground on their own. Love the option with Miley.

So, who thinks if everyone is healthy and Craig and Castillo are hitting that Mookie could get sent back to AAA to preserve depth?

I think the only time Betts will be back in the minors will be for future rehab assignments and let's hope that doesn't happen....

To me, if everyone is healthy a trade is far more likely. Three possible scenarios.
1. We trade excess like Victorino and Mujica plus cash for a one year rental as discussed several times (Zimmermann, Cueto, Iwakuma, Price, Fister). 2. We trade excess for prospects or cost controlled lesser players and get under the lux-cap. 3. We up the ante, trade excess with cash plus add in a B prospect or two and trade for a cost controlled young semi-stud like the Mets Wheeler. (There are several pitchers who would fit that description, Wheeler seems the most obvious as far as availability, like, A's Grey, Mariners Walker, pick a Marlin, etc,etc.).
I like plan 3 the best.....

I wouldn't be so sure, as an example, Victorino, JBJ and Marrero would all be starters on opening day for the Mets. They have enough pitching depth that the loss of Wheeler would be minimal because it would open up a starting slot for what is maybe the top pitching prospect system in baseball. The cash would also be a major consideration in this case. The Mets are in a weak division except a single team, the Nationals. That would certainly make them more of a wild card potential team than as currently constructed.
Mariners, Victorino would be an upgrade to their platoon RF and would give them a backup center fielder. They also have six decent starters and a different prospect package like Johnson,Barnes or Escobar and aCecchini would be appealing. They're already favorites in the west, I believe that would boost that standing. Craig at first base would also appeal.
Marlins are similarly situated to the Mets, lots of pitching depth and lots of holes. In our own division, the Rays but I don't see the Rays as planning to compete this year. The A's would be difficult but they also have a lot of starters, they would likely be a three teamer and we'd likely have to include Owens. I'm sure if you look around, there are lots of pitchers that would fit the category and several that could use what the Sox have to offer.
By the way, about a week or 10 days ago, the New York papers were speculating that the Mets might deal Wheeler since they've been unable to move their older pitchers like Colon.
Also, if the Sox don't care if they exceed the lux tax then offering cash with the package is always a major inducement.

I think you're exaggerating the trade value that Victorino or Craig would have. Even if they're healthy in Spring Training, they're still at a relatively high risk of re-injury (due to injury history and age), and that risk means that an acquiring team would not value them as if they were back to their 2013 selves. I don't think you'll be able to use them to get one of the pending FA pitchers without including significant prospect value going the other way. Similarly, I don't think your plan 3 makes much sense either. It's rare that you see a deal structured with a veteran plus a prospect for a pre-arb, high-ceiling guy. Yes, in theory it might make the other team better, but you have to think that those teams could get more for their young semi-studs than a risky veteran rental and a non-top-100 prospect or two.
ADD: and on the nitpicky side, I also don't think Bradley (Juan Lagares) or Marrero (Wilmer Flores) would start for the Mets, as their existing options fit the same mold (good defense, fringy bats) but have more of a track record. Similarly, I don't see the Mariners trading one of the higher-ceiling arms in the league for a platoon outfielder or a fringy 1B starter plus some back-end/non-top 100 prospects.

To boot, the Mets spent good money on Cuddy, love what Lagares brings defensively (maybe better than JBJ), and are betting on Granderson providing more power with the fences moved in. Personally I think the Mets would be foolish to move a young starter for old castoffs. They will want to see how Harvey is post surgery, and are likely destined for a 3rd place finish behind the Nats and a revamped Marlins team.

If the Mets and or Marlins do nothing, they have no shot at the playoffs. There's also far bigger shortage of position players right now than pitchers.I also think you guys are under selling Victorino, especially if we include cash. The risk is minimal because he's a one year contract, it's nowhere near the risk that the Padres just took with Kemp.
Of course, we'll have to wait and see what develops but I see the necessity to do something and taking on a third one year rental pitcher seems less attractive at this point than it did a few months ago. The most logical upgrade at this point is a cost controlled pitcher and we have a ton of depth without having to lose a Betts/Swihart/Xander.
ADD:
Marc (D.C.) Thanks Keith, love your work. Do you think Wilmer Flores can get the job done for the Mets? If not, is there any reason he's likely their starting SS, other than money?
Klaw (1:02 PM) I don't believe he's a shortstop, and never have.
Granderson, age 34. 2013 .723 OPS, 2014 .714. The Mets would need a little league field.

If the Mets and or Marlins do nothing, they have no shot at the playoffs. If the Mets have no shot at the playoffs this year, then Victorino has literally no value to them. And to propose that they'd trade young, team-controlled talent with upside to get him? It's not a good move for them, and throwing in cash and/or a bunch of marginal AAA talent doesn't change that. It's been said a million times before, but if you're proposing a trade for a really valuable player and it isn't the least bit painful to the Red Sox, it's not going to happen.

So, who thinks if everyone is healthy and Craig and Castillo are hitting that Mookie could get sent back to AAA to preserve depth? Not me. If on the off chance that Craig, Ramirez, Victorino are all healthy and ready to go opening day, it's not a situation that will last very long. I'd say it's even money that this is never an issue and that the Sox don't have to decide between putting Mookie in the OF and cutting an OF.
