I'd love to know who makes the rain-out calls. I just got back from Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota. Brilliant blue skies. The Orioles are practicing on one of the side fields. It amazes me how quickly they call a game. There is NO rain in the forecast until late tonight now. They could have played a double-header. This has been a very weird GCL season to date. I've gone to 4 games and 3 were called. Today's game was the worse.

I am about 8 miles south of Ed Smith. Hardly a cloud....

How many games are scheduled vs. how many games are played every year? It seems like half the games get rained out. I almost wonder why they bother having a league in Florida in the summer.

How many games are scheduled vs. how many games are played every year? It seems like half the games get rained out. I almost wonder why they bother having a league in Florida in the summer. It is never that bad. Actually one thing great about our summers is that it does have a shower for 30 minutes which cuts the humidity and heat often. That is Florida in the summer. Also, the showers are very hit and miss. It can be raining on I-75 and 2 miles away they get no rain at all all-day. I have this image of the team bus traveling down I-75 and it is raining like crazy 45 minutes out (trip from Sarasota to Jet Blue in Fort Myers is about 90 minutes), and the manager starts to get worried. One person can't make a decision 30 miles away about the potential of a rain shower. The weather changes quickly here. I got to today's game (scheduled game) at 11:05 AM. The skies were gorgeous and according to the hourly report there was no chance of rain until the evening. How could they not stay and play 60 minutes later, if they needed time to warm-up? The Orioles were having a full workout. The fields were in great shape. What, of course, is so depressing about me driving to a game and it not happening is I'm stoked about watching Devers and Chavis. I even brought my video camera and was going to attempt getting them on tape.

Used to be they would play even FSL games with rain coming down, sometimes fairly heavy. It was the lightning that would cause the delays and they would wait to call games even if they had a lengthy in game delay until the field was still playable.
Now,it's like was posted above. Like they look at the forecast more and don't wait to see how the conditions on the ground are, nor even have games start on time even if the field is clear, especially GCL. Have noticed this a lot more with the GCL Tigers than with the Lakeland Flying Tigers FSL team, but still with both and they pull players from the field a lot sooner also. Having them out there with some rain isn't going to hurt them any, it never did before as long as lightning isn't present.
Some teams made long bus rides and need to get those games in, double headers are the burden and in GCL games, not even keeping teams fairly close stops the 1-1 1/2 hour daily rides for some teams.

Hope it's nothing, but the fact that they had to shuffle positions isn't an encouraging sign...

In theory the drive should have had a monster pitching staff this year.
But then reality caught up with expectations that may have been over the top.

Here's a switch...
The sun is out (per usual) and it is pouring with high winds....First rain in 10 days....Just one saturated cloud
Ft. Myers is much more suspect this time of year.

To be fair, they have promoted two guys to Salem already. I still think your point stands with the existing group, but clearly isn't quite the slam dunk it was with the two guys repeating.
