Check out Trey Ball today. 2 hitter after 5! 57 pitches - 42 strikes! No walks! And they take him out... seems a little premature to me.

It's real great news with Ball. Something which must be encouraging for him. He seems like a great young man. We all are rooting for him I'm sure. It's just great to see some good news for him. Hopefully he can continue to make progress. This is clear progress. They weren't hitting him. He was throwing strikes.
Just looking at Devers numbers now. The guy isn't even 18 years old yet and has consistently torn up low A ball. Even Xander didn't hit like that.

I think they did the right thing. Don't let him get tired. Have something to hang his hat on for a while. A real solid, encouraging start. He doesn't need to drop everything and be a lights out pitcher now. Just continue to make progress over time.

Witte wants back in on the Top 60. 3/4 2 2B, 3B but Salem lost.
Lowell with a late game meltdown lost 5-4. Buttrey/Perez with decent pitching lines.

Hasn't ball done really well through five and gotten beat up in the sixth a couple of times?

I'm guessing that has to do with why he was pulled. He was apparently at just 57 pitches, and he's been allowed to start the sixth before.

We all are rooting for him I'm sure. Well, all of us except the dozen or so posters who have already demanded he be converted to an OFer.

Devers 2/3, but two more throwing erros, up to 7. all kidding aside, what's up with Chavis? 2 for 29 with 12 Ks. Still small sample size/slump (less than Xander's current one, and I believe in him), but I wouldn't mind a sign of life. edit: Seems like too many catchers at Ft.Myers, as they keep rotating them for half a game. That doesn't even include Denney, who was thought to be active, but hasn't seen action since that initial report. To be honest Steve it.could be that he's just tired. The whole process they put these 18 year old children through is grueling mentally and physically. Plus this is probably the longest. he's ever been away from home. If he's healthy and doing this next year worry. But my guess is that there are tons of examples of players who sucked wind in the complex leagues and went on to have strong major league careers. I believe that Jeter is one if I am not mistaken.

I was wondering where the 9 hits off of Owens came from, and it turns out he gave up 5/11 on ground balls, two or three more than expected.

I was wondering where the 9 hits off of Owens came from, and it turns out he gave up 5/11 on ground balls, two or three more than expected. The majority came in the fourth when he was throwing almost all curves. After a few batters, they were sitting on it. For most of the inning he was high with it. He has 2 curves, this one was the loopy one, prior to that he was using the sharper curve mixed in with the FB and change. Afterwards, he went back to how he usually pitches, mixing the FB and the change with just enough curves to be third pitch. At the time, he had a 8-0 lead, perfect time to work on stuff.

Owens seems ready for Pawtucket.
If we can open a spot in the boston bullpen that workman can slide into, that will open a spot for Owens in Pawtucket.

Trade Breslow, promote Layne. Keeping Workman in Pawtucket for 3 weeks buys a year service time also Mujica is not a FA at the end of the year. Just need to move Hernandez back to the pen. Ranaudo, Webster, Owens, Wright, Barnes. Workman and Hernandez in the pen for now.

I was expecting Owens to be moving up with the all star break over. Any news on that? The Pawsox starting staff is full right now. A trade or injury will, no doubt, move him up.
