There's a lot of sensationalism in that article.

Gordon Edes ?@gordonedes 18s There are scouts from at least 17 teams in the Trop tonight. Royals, Giants, Pirates all have two. Phillies are here, as well

Call me crazy. But, I think the Fish would take Mookie instead of Xander. Why, arbitration. They could keep Mookie in AAA until after Super 2 status next year. Xander will be 2 years closer to arb. Mookie, Swihart and pitching IMO.

Boras, who already represents at lest 2 of the young kids who comprise the Fish rotation in Fernandez and Turner, not sure how many other of the young Marlinn's starlets he might represent, but those 2 already are out as extension candidates and imagine just Boras representing Bogaerts would make Betts more in line as a chip in any deal, should one be in the works between the 2.

WMB not playing. Is this a precursor? God I hate to give up a bunch of homegrown for one player!!!!
Please let's bite the bullet this year and wait to see what our guys do.
I love Coyle, WMB, Bradley, Xander, Mookie, Marrero... Let these guys develop and play...please!!!

In case they want to trade one of their players to the Rays more likely than the Sox. Some people still believe the Sox are in it. They could be watching for many reasons honestly.

Who would those people be? I don't think anybody really believes the Sox are in this anymore. They had their last gasp chance and flushed it down the toilet north of the border. I think Lester, Lackey, Uehara, and Miller are being strongly monitored. Other guys like Carp and Gomes, and possibly but not likely, Drew are probably getting attention as well and I'm sure the Sox farm system teams are being heavily scouted as well if the Sox are looking at Cole Hamels as a Lester replacement.

Now we are getting somewhere. 17 scouts at the game! It's like a breath of fresh air to me.

Sox-PG talk with Lester centered around 'was this your last RS start.' He answered--in tone-- like he thought it might be, without saying so? When asked if he'd consider coming back as a FA if he were traded he answered "sure."
I don't want to predict he'll go because it just seems too complicated on several levels. But maybe the FO feels losing him now is preferable to losing him as a FA in Dec?

The way that Mookie betts is playing, why not trade Victorino? I love what he has contributed to the sox, but he is old and their isn't going to be enough room for him. He might have some value if we eat like 7 million of his salary next year. Betts needs to be here playing EVERYDAY!!!!! the kid goes back to Pawtucket and is killing it! give him the opportunity.

Vic's trade value is lowered by his fragility and his $13M contract for 2015. If he plays well the next four weeks he could be traded in August. But he's probably going to play 3-4 days a week.

Mookie, Swihart and pitching IMO. Ah, the classic "maybe they would prefer our lesser prospects!" fan rationalization. The Marlins don't care about what you mentioned. They call guys up very young and even skip some (Stanton, Yelich) over AAA for pete's sake. They certainly don't care enough to think Mookie has more value than Xander. No team in baseball thinks that. Besides, a team trading for Xander could easily justify sending him to AAA given his struggles. That said, I don't think it's crazy to think, if the Marlins were inclined to deal, that they would accept Mookie as the centerpiece.

Jen Royle @jen_Royle Source: One NL team is close to acquiring Jake Peavy. Hearing it's NOT St. Louis. Lots of things need to happens before this gets done.
Giants or Pirates?

Peavy would do well in the NL West, and the Giants seem like the kind of organization who would be willing to overpay for him. Boston still isn't going to get an A-/B+ prospect, but someone like Mac Williamson might be in play.
ADD: forgot Williamson needs TJ surgery, and he's 24 already. So maybe he's not that attractive a piece. But San Fran has a bunch of interesting pitchers in their system, so there's definitely room for a deal.

en Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal #SFGiants close to acquiring Peavy from #RedSox, sources tell @jonmorosi and me. Details still need to be worked out.
I actually think they'll get one decent prospect back. Gary Brown's stock as fallen, but he's and OF bat.

The fact that "details" need to be worked out seems to indicate they are either working out the money or there are multiple prospects/players in the deal.

In keeping w/market trend of this trade deadline: Good return for seller. (In this case, BOS). Price for Lester, Price undoubtedly massive.
