One of the 25 ... twice.
I remember seeing him as he was coming up (Portland, 2005, specifically). I remember speaking with his folks here on the board and elsewhere. I remember the cancer scare and how he persevered through it with dignity and class. He's one of us, no matter where he pitches the rest of his career.
Jon, thanks for all you have meant to the Red Sox, the City of Boston and all cancer survivors and their families. We'll be rooting for you in Oakland this year.

He is the last player on the Red Sox that came up from the farm system before the inception of SoxProspects.com.
He will be missed. Good luck in Oakland.

Thank you Jon.
Enjoy the playoff run, we'll see you again this winter, Sir.
Note to clubhouse attendants: just leave the locker/nameplate untouched.

He's one of the real great guys in baseball, the kind of player I'd want my son to look up to. He's handled this very difficult year with incredible class and grace. Good luck to him going forward.

Hopefully a short goodbye. Cheers to you Jon, you were a class act from Day 1, a home grown talent, cancer survivor, two time champ. You will be missed (hopefully not for long, as pipe dreamish as it is to think he'll re-sign, we all still want it to happen.) I was lucky enough to have tickets for his No-hitter against KC, great night.
Best of luck in Oakland, feel free to re-sign in Beantown as a 3 time champ.

You could never say enough about this mans character. At a time when fans such as me demanded he be traded before free agency, Jon never shown anything but gratitude to be in Boston. He's overcome cancer and put a hurt city on his back on the way to the world series. He is truly a role model for anyone associated with baseball. He will be sorely missed in Boston and will continue to get my support no matter what jersey he is wearing.
Thank you Jon for everything, and good luck!

Thank you for being a class act through everything and being the true gamer you are. I wish you nothing but the success and future earnings you deserve. You'll always be a Red Sox at heart.

Have fun playing for something special in Oakland and we'll hopefully see you wearing a Boston uni again this spring. He's been through so much with the city of Boston and its fans. I hope he'll return.
And I agree with jmei, he's the type of player I'd want my son to look up to as gets more into baseball. A true gentlemen. He really handled this year with so much class.

It's hard to root for some modern athletes. It's quite easy to be a Jon Lester fan. I got a chance to see him pitch in 05 too. Down in Reading. I remember how devastating it was hearing about his cancer. Paps was out with shoulder issues. Tek was hurt. Team was coming apart at the seams. Boom. The Lester news. The season and injuries didn't seem so important any longer. What a story his career has been.

Thanks for helping bring two rings and taking the ball every 5th day Jon. Hope you win another ring with Oakland. Here's to at least 5 more years of 30 plus starts and 200 innings. Good luck and good health.

Thanks Jon Lester. You should not have been traded. You should have been resigned. Fare well and thanks for all the great performances, the No-No, the two World Series you helped win and the great memories. So glad I got to see you pitch again this year live.

Thanks Jon, cancer survivor, winner. I hope he wins another title and then he wins in the offseason. He picks what he wants.
I just wanted to know what was his number to stay .

I wish Jon well and hope that he gets another ring with the A's. My best memories of him include his first game back from Lymphona treatment in Cleveland with his parents in the stands, winning the clinching game 4 of the 2007 WS vs. Rockies and his 2013 post-season performance. He is an inspiration for everyone with his NVRQT approach to life.

Jon Lester was a pleasure to watch. He was our Andy Pettitte and like Andy he's taking a detour and I hope he comes back to his original team the way Pettitte did.
It was always debatable if he was an ace or not. He certainly has pitched like one for the past year as he actually is pitching like a guy perfecting his craft.
What's not up for debate is that he IS most definitely a post-season ace, which the A's will be glad to find out for themselves.
What would make me most thankful would be if Jon Lester returns home to the Red Sox in 2015 and beyond.

FanGraphs said it well, Jon Lester is one of the 10 best Sox pitchers - ever. Guaranteed to take the mound, and getting better even as he made his way to 30. No regrets for real fans.

I'm usually just a laundry fan, but I'll always be a Lester fan. I hope I can watch him pitching in late October.
I know what the chances of him coming back here are, but I'm a mindless fan and as such I reserve to right to hope.
