Awesome. If you were going to pick a player that Red Sox fans wouldn't mind trading to the Yankees, could you pick a better one? AJP?

ENOUGH - let's focus on the most important point here: Stephen Drew - True Yankee? The Yankees have their SS of the future! AHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

This is a really dumb trade only to save money. They should have DFA'ed him than done the Yankees a favor. Seriously?

So this was purely an addition by subtraction move?

XB still not good as SS position. Will add more errors by throwing & still have no range. Kelly Johnson? He can't hit like Drew. Kelly Johnson and Stephen Drew are signed through this season. We're in last place.

Strange trade. Can someone explain why the Sox need him? Why not trade Drew for a lottery ticket? The only thing I can figure is that the want to evaluate Johnson to see if he's worth signing next season, and they wanted to give Drew a place to shine for his next contract. (They seem to care about doing right by players in trades....)

Kelly Johnson is on the DL which is great. We've broken the taboo rule of not being able to trade DL players.
July 23, 2014 Placed UT Kelly Johnson on the 15-day DL

What a total screw up signing Drew was from day one.

(They seem to care about doing right by players in trades....) This is a money trade, designed to cut BOS's losses for re-signing Drew in the first place. Red Sox traded $4.8mm of salary for $1.0mm of salary, less whatever "minimal" amount of cash we agreed to send over. It's $3.8mm better than simply DFA'ing him. Obviously, we don't care this year about trading free agents within the division, with Miller in BAL and Drew in MFY.

Keep Johnson on the DL until September then don't play him at all.
