I think it's time to send both Bogaerts and Bradley down as a package to Pawtucket until they can relearn how to hit. Have Marrero move around in Pawtucket to become more versatile. In Boston, play Holt at SS, Middlebrooks at third, and Mookie in the OF. If the two Bs go down to Pawtucket together, it might soften the ego blow for either of them a bit. Let's have Betts learn CF -- I'm beginning to wonder if he is the CF of the future with this team. Or at least a starter somewhere in the OF.

If Victorino weren't hurt, I'd agree. Not sure they can afford to lose Bradley right now. You need 2 CF's, and two RF's, and no, Nava and Bailey don't fill either position well.

How can you learn to hit major league pitchers in Pawtucket? Do you send them down til 9/1 and then bring them up after they accumulate 100 plate appearances in AAA?

Whew, if you ever wondered how some teams can make just completely boneheaded moves at the deadline, there's this little tidbit: That's just dumb. How can you make good decisions working on two nights of no sleep? edit to add: This is not to say that Cherington made bad decisions last week ... I was traveling much of last weekend so didn't weigh in, but I think he actually did well and went in an interesting direction that I wasn't expecting. In Cherington's post-trade news conference he said something to the effect of drinking lots of coffee and doing some "other stuff". It was a great line.

they don't test GMs for PEDs.

Old-school GMs like Kevin Towers respect the game by ruining their team while clean.

I advocated sending X down about a month ago - Because he was slumping AND as a means of securing an additional year of control over him. Service time is less of an issue with Bradley. But, yes, in general I don't think that players who aren't performing for as long as these two have been slumping should, in addition to getting a major league salary, receive the additional benefit of getting that much closer to free agency. So, I'd love to see what Holt and Middlebrooks can offer over the last 40 or so games - Holt so that we can decide whether he's a legitimate option as a starting SS and Middlebrooks so that we can decide whether or not he's anything more than a bench/role player (which would essentially mean his role is on another team).

I found this part of the piece interesting as well: Henry, Werner, and Lucchino were active participants in the process leading up to the trades. Michael Gordon, an untitled limited partner whose stake in the team and Fenway Sports Group is more than all of the partners outside of Henry, was a visitor to the conference room as well.

A lot of very importance political and financial decisions are made with little sleep. It's definitely unfortunate.
