The Boston Red Sox signed Stephen Drew......so the Red Sox could trade him to their hated rival. I want to thank Ben Cherington for being the biggest dumb*** to win a world series.

If the Red Sox had released him the Yankees would have signed him. If the Red Sox had waited until after the draft the Yankees would have signed him. It's not like Cherington hatched a plot to get Drew onto the Yankees, dude.
Drew is hitting .350/.450/.550 the rest of the season. I just want everyone to be prepared for that.

Sweep these clowns and mount a playoff push. Yeah man! We only need to go 49-5 to match last year's record.

Unlike the fans, the Red Sox don't, and shouldn't, operate in a world where the Yankees are the enemy. The Yankees were in a position to take on a contract of a player the Red Sox didn't need anymore. So they worked out a pretty low level deal. The Yankees get the infield depth they need, the Red Sox are free of a contract if they want to make a waiver claim and also can move Bogaerts to SS and evaluate the third base prospects for next season. And to answer your rhetorical question, it was when the Sox dealt Mike Stanley to New York.

I'm really looking to see what Craig and Cespedes can bring to the table, and how the reworked pitching rotation fares.

I'm really looking to see what Craig and Cespedes can bring to the table, and how the reworked pitching rotation fares. Me too. I'll be even more excited when they put Workman in the pen for good. Nothing against the dude, but he ain't a starter and the longer this carries on the longer he's not great setup man. At this point, I'd rather give BJ a chance.

I'm really looking to see what Craig and Cespedes can bring to the table, and how the reworked pitching rotation fares. Absolutely. The remainder of the season just turned into a big audition/showcase for 2015. The one head-scratcher for me is Kelly Johnson. I figured he would just be keeping a spot warm for Middlebrooks, but BC sounds like he's bringing WMB back. Where does this leave Johnson? DFA, "calf injury" DL for the month of August?

with all the days off, Sox only need 11 pitchers, so Layne can stay in AAA and Carp stays on bench. Unless Victorino is ready for the DL.
Gotta wonder now that the Sox have Johnson on the DL, does the 15 day clock start all over, or is the 23rd still the start day? not that it matters. "July 23, 2014 Placed UT Kelly Johnson on the 15-day DL "

The best part about all of these trades is that it makes this team interesting to watch again. Instead of just playing out the string we get to see how Craig and Cespedes fit in Fenway. We get to see all of that starting depth in Pawtucket and see how they fair against big league hitters. We get to see Xander back at SS and another shot for Middlebrooks.
The next two months should show who's a keeper, who's a trade chip and who needs more seasoning.

I'm significantly more interested in the games now than say 4 days ago. Really looking forward to seeing the young guys with a chance to start every 5 days, and to see Cespedes/Craig along. Also looking forward to watching JBJ and Xander without all that much concern on the overall score and result of the game
