One dude who ought to be a little happier today is Ortiz. He was concerned before the season and in the early stages about not having sufficient support in the lineup. Well, the Sox went out and got him some.

Is there some sort of karmic reference to the Red Sox calling up MOOKIE and WILSON in the same day?

Wilson a one day placeholder til Kelly reports and starts. That way if they need innings for relief tonight they have someone.

And the most improbable Red Sox playoff run begins tonight. They'll be so loose they'll go on a 15-20 run.

the Carp fan club is in hiding behind closed doors. "We have absolutely no comment at this time", mumbled their spokesman.

I don't follow why the Red Sox brought Betts back up today. He needs to play everyday and there are a glut of OFs and IFs at this point. Similarly confused with Bradford's tweet that Holt will play CF vs LHP and either SS/3B vs RHPs. Holt is a super utility player, but he has regressed quite a bit in his last 60 ABs or so. The rest of the season should be focused on seeing what you have with Bogaerts at SS, Middlebrooks at 3B and Bradley in CF, with Holt filling in three times in a week at each position (once each at SS, 3B and OF). Don't get me wrong Holt is nice guy to have, but he certainly isn't someone who should be playing every day at the expense of guys who have the potential for much bigger impact on the Red Sox future.

I assume that Betts is just up for this game, unless Victorino goes on DL. ShaneO is on the DL, and I still assume Betts is just up for this game. They didn't know whether Cespedes was going to make it tonight, so I suspect that was the reason.

The #stlcards will start John Lackey on Sunday in part to avoid facing former #RedSox teammates.

And the most improbable Red Sox playoff run begins tonight. They'll be so loose they'll go on a 15-20 run. Given the turmoil of the last couple of days combined with shedding their #1 and #2 starters, I'd be thrilled if the Sox went 15-20 in their next 35 games. Hard to see how that would get them to the playoffs, though!!
