The better* strategy in a class with no clear top is to take a player with a lesser cost and spread his bonus out among other high ceiling lottery tickets in subsequent rounds.
*Better than punting the pick. Doesn't change the comment about teams holding their lines, and being willing to wait till next year if needed.

I was thinking is there any thought of the RedSox punting this years pick and taking a 8 next year with whatever pick they end up with after this season ? I was thinking maybe next years class will be more top heavy. So with that in mind Akin might not be a bad pick. Upside he signs at a reasonable cost bc/ of TJ surgery, and we get last years number one. The down side he balks and we take 8 next year. I do love Fulmer if he's available. He I feel we can all agree will be a major leaguer wether it's in the pen or as a starter. Thoughts ? This idea or something similar seems to get thrown around on each page of this thread.

If the front office gets their choice of Tate, Fulmer, Bregman, and Benintendi when their number is up, we should be very happy with the pick. Tucker in that mix would leave us spoiled.

It would be great if Bregman fell to us. I like Benintendi, but I think Bregman's floor is higher and their ceilings aren't that far apart.

Bregman, Benintendi, Fulmer, Daz. There's a very good chance we get one of them and I'll be happy with any.

Why is Bregman so intriguing to so many? I want to "jump on" the wagon, but I really see a decent 2nd baseman....and not much more. Is it because the draft is poor and he looks like a surer thing? Not trying to be negative, I just want to hear reasons for me to be excited about him.

I'm from New Mexico so I was already on board with Bregman, but this article from the Hardball Times sold me on him being a very good pick at 7.

As an ex-math major, I feel much better about the choice.

If you believe the latest mocks, it won't matter. Bregman to Houston at #2 is the current consensus (Law, Callis, Crawford and McDaniel all have him there - only Manuel at BA has Bregman getting past that spot - and that's because they have Swanson available with Stephenson as a suprise pick at 1).

If we keep up our current pace the LHP throwing for Florida will be a mainstay in next years draft thread.
Edit: guess he is tomorrow's SP.

Talked to someone last night who raved about Whitley. He said he thinks he'll be a 25 HR player with a chance to stick in center if he fills his frame out correctly.
Hope he doesn't go to NY like many projects have it.

I don't get why Whitley is so low on a lot of mock drafts you see, I'd be ecstatic if the Sox drafted him.

Vandy is totally destroying Illinois, on the road. Swanson with a few hits, Fulmer 4 scoreless with a few Ks
